Today was a great day at work. My seniors and I continued our rap as poetry lesson, dissecting songs from Dead Prez, Aesop Rock, Tupac, and Jay-Z. We had a great time, and it was interesting to see them find poetic devices throughout the songs. I'm curious to see what they say during our discussion tomorrow. My sophomores read "A Rose for Emily" by William Faulkner today, and most of them seemed to enjoy it. During my 7th period's journal time, I asked them if they had any song requests...I loved that we ended up listening to Frank Sinatra while they did their creative writing for 10 minutes. It made me happy to see "kids these days" appreciating great music. It made me think about when we have children, and how exposed to music they'll be, mainly due to Hank. I always have music on, but it's great to have a parent who is so skilled at playing so many instruments. I can't even imagine what it would be like to grow up around that- definitely very cool.
For some reason this week just flew by, and I am so excited that tomorrow is Friday! I have a very, very full weekend of family time. Autumn's baby shower is Saturday which I am most looking forward to. Tomorrow night Shirl and I are going to shop for some clothes for baby Carter- most of my friends have had girls, so it's going to be nice to pick out things for a little baby boy. Before the shower on Saturday, I'll be going antiquing with my Mom, Dad, and sis...hopefully I can find the chairs we've been looking for! I'm also really excited about working out with my sister Lauren (click here to visit her blog- and click here to visit her new fitness blog) at her new gym! Spin class here we come. Have any of you done Spin before? It's one of my most favorite workouts to do, and I also really enjoy full-body sculpt class with weights. Do you take any fitness classes that you really love?
Before I head to the gym for a nice late night workout, I wanted to include a typical workout playlist. I basically just took my most recent mix and duplicated it onto this site. Be forewarned though, the music won't be for everyone. I like all genres, but when I work out I typically listen to either rap or hardcore. For the past few weeks it's been the latter, and this mix features a lot of that, and in particular a lot of songs from one of my all-time favorite bands, Modern Life is War. Some of it is a little embarrassing (hello, Hatebreed?!), but it gets me going, so I can't complain. So, I don't know if many of you will enjoy it, but this is what I listen to, and you guys asked for it...so here it is! :) I'd love to hear what some of your favorite songs are too, so feel free to share with us if you're so inclined! New workout music is always the best. Next week I will post another mix, of more "beat" type music.
Here are some daily photos from today as well-
today's outfit (what I wore to work):
dress- Marc by Marc Jacobs
cardigan- J. Crew
tights- Hue (via Macy's)
shoes- BCBG

Madeline also received a little present in the mail today, from All Mighty! Click here to visit their store. We got a bunch of stuff from their shop and all of it is incredibly adorable, including everything from Dainty June. Love love love.

i LOVE converge at the gym. and that dress!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that you put Broadway Calls on here! I've been addicted to them since seeing them in Chicago with Bayside and Bouncing Souls this past year :)
ReplyDeleteIt's official...your clothes are adorable!
ReplyDeletehehe, i love the picture of madeline with the stuffed animal.
ReplyDeleteMadelines new friend is so cute! That is the sweetest thing! I hope she doesn't chew it up :).
ReplyDeleteI use to love hardcore music. It's not that I still don't, it's just I haven't actually listened to it in a while, so this is great!
ah, most of those bands remind me of hs! i usually work out to most of those bands too.
ReplyDeletei'm going to be taking a spin class next semester! my gym doesn't offer any classes so it'll be my first time.
I really want to try a spin class. My gym doesn't offer them...boo!!! The only classes I've really taken are a pilates mat class and zumba, which was really fun. And I totally listen to Hatebreed while working out, it gets me all riled up!!!
ReplyDeleteFINALLY,
ReplyDeleteMusic I can completely vouch for. You have some of my favorite hardcore bands listed. Floorpunch is one of my all-time favorite hardcore bands, and Converge is so amazing. They've gotten so much more technical with their latest cd (and you would think that's not even possible?) Jacob Bannon is in words, the most entertaining man I have ever seen live. I usually go for my evening runs listening to hardcore, so having this playlist is really awesome. Everytime I think about Hatebreed the only song that I can think about is "I Will Be Heard." Haha!
Your dress is amazing as well! Have a great Friday. :)
Like everyone else, I am totally loving that dress!
ReplyDeleteThat is my DREAM cardigan.... hope I can find one!
ReplyDeleteMy oldest daughter liked Dead Prez when she was much younger (I think when she was about five)... definitely not music for children, but the song "Hip Hop" made her crazy. I didn't even realize she was listening to it along with me (sometimes we were in different rooms) until she asked me one day, "Who did shoot Biggie Smalls?"
ReplyDeleteomg..love your dress sooo much!!
ReplyDeleteand madeline's new friend is adorable!! I want to get one for my hubby! he's always wanted a boston terrier..lol
You are the cutest darn thing! Glad i came across your blog! :)
ReplyDeletei LOVE your dress!! i saw an (maybe) easier way to do the read more thing. apparently it is already an option in blogger. you just go to your page elements (or layout if your in the dashboard area) and click on the edit button in the blog posts area. the 2nd thing down says, "post page link text", and across from that there is a, "read more" box. just click on the little question mark box and it will explain how to set it up. hope that helps! good luck. :)
ReplyDeleteYou look so pretty! The dress is gorgeous :)
ReplyDeletexoxoxo
Love everything about this post!
ReplyDeleteMy workout mix is basically exactly that as of lately. It keeps me motivated.
- Your outfit is adorable of course.
- Your sweet puppy is precious!
- And spin is one of my favorite classes to attend.
:]
You're way too adorable.
Haha I love how Madeline and her new friend are almost identical. Too cute.
ReplyDeleteAwesome workout playlist! I run to a couple of those songs - perfect for drive!
ReplyDeleteThat dress is gorgeous!! I love it! Madelines new friend too, it reminds me of my dog, it's a French Bull, but they look kinda alike! Hope you'll have a fun weekend!
ReplyDeleteGreatings from the Netherlands,
Mandy
in love with the play list. converge is one of my favorite bands! (my boyfriend & i named our pug after j. bannon!)
ReplyDelete:)
My gym membership just expired, but when I went - I definitely put quite a diverse mix on my ipod and trust me, I had hatebreed on there at times! MLIW is another of my favorites, so thanks for sharing! My favorite part though must be Madeline and her new friend.. :]
ReplyDeleteYour outfits are always so cute! I took a lot of English classes in college (it was my minor) and I had one Poetry professor who always wore very interesting, creative outfits. She had a wonderful, unique style and I always appreciated the time she spent getting ready every day because it was hard to show up at nine MWF and since we had to sit and she gave us something nice and interesting to look at for the hour!
ReplyDeleteSO that was a very long winded way to explain that I'm sure your student appreciate your fashion sense!
I love MLIW, great choice!

Love your blog by the way :D have a good day!!
ReplyDeleteThat is the cutest outfit I have ever seen, just adorable.
