Good morning AIMS testing!

Here's a quick snapshot of my morning, which consists of reading my Kindle while the kids are working their way through three hours of standardized testing. It's days like this that make me so grateful to be the one administrating the tests and not taking them! Being an adult rules (most of the time).

Did you work today? What do you do for a living? Before I became a teacher I worked for Aveda for many years, both in a salon/spa and in a store, and then I also blissfully worked at a bookstore. In my next life, I'm going to be a librarian.

Whatever you're doing today, I hope you have a good one. See you later for Tattoo Tuesday! :)

  15. I'm essentially a secretary now, but I used to be a high school English teacher. I want to be an English professor when I grow up... or rather, when I finish grad school in a few years. Here's hoping I'll be grown up by then. ;)

  16. My current day job is working for a lobbying firm as a legislative admin assistant but freelance web design is what consumes most of my {little} free time. It's what I want to do full-time and so I'm currently working on my portfolio to have just that happen!

  17. i work at an art museum at the front desk. not the most exciting job in the world, but I'd take it over some of the others i've had any day!:) p.s. it's inspiring to see how much you love your job!

  18. I'm in my first year at uni as a knitwear student. I am absolutely loving it. I'm learning how to make such wonderful things, and using the knitting machines. It's very interesting.
I also work as a design consultant for a handknitting company called Rowan. I basically just help customers with their knitting projects and help them choose new ones to start on! It's such good fun, as my true passion is handknitting. I feel so lucky to have such a wonderful life, really!

  20. I work (too much) in my opinion. lol.
My first job is being mama to my two babes.
My second job is 'paperwork princess' office girl (accts payable, receivable, payroll, collections, anythings and everything that is papaerwork) for our family owned business (air conditioning and heating). The hubs is our tech, along with his uncle. His aunt works with me in the office. She answers phones and does the scheduling. Thank God (because when people are HOT they are MEAN on the phone).
My third job is running the office for my friend's concrete company. Thats two days a week (after my day job).
Luckily, I work while the kids are at school, so I don't miss out on homework and afterschool activities... one of the advantages to working for family. :-)

  21. I'm a barista while I'm in school to become an English teacher. I've always considered becoming a librarian, surrounding myself with books all day would be a dream!

  22. ooh, those standardized tests are the worst! I work in a k-12 public arts school in the nurse's office! I love it (although it is gross sometimes!) because of the wide range of ages I get to see every day!

  23. I work afternoon/evenings so I won't leave for a few hours.
I edit press releases. Not at all exciting.
    sigh.
But hopefully soon my wedding photography will be full time (http://www.teeganphotography.com)

  24. I'm a professional photographer - photojournalism, fine art, weddings, portraits, etc but actually in the midst of a huge career change as I was hired by Casio over the weekend to rep their digital camera line (I will be teaching workshops, doing demos with the cameras etc). Totally scared yet very excited for this big change as it will involve tons of travel through the Western states! I went to ASU for fine art photography and since graduating I've been lucky enough to travel to some unique countries as well as photograph for some newspapers such as the East Valley Tribune. Eventually I want to go to grad school so I can teach photography at a university.

  26. I'm a corporate paralegal now, but I once worked at Aveda as well. Those were fun times. :) And you're right -- being an adult is good. Except for when it comes to bills and boring responsibilities. I don't really like that part. ;)

I am the head baker at a bread bakery. We also make cookies bigger than my hand and lots of little yummy treats :)

  29. I'm a server. It's not rewarding at all. But it's fun sometimes, I love everyone I work with, so that makes it easier to go. The schedule allows me to take off any time I want, so I plan to do some traveling. After that I will be settling down and opening my own daycare. Which I am very excited about. :)

  30. I am a registered dietitian (RD) and I love it. I love everything about food. Learning about it, teaching about it, cooking it and especially eating it! Yum! I use to work on the clinical side of it but now I am on the management side and am the dietitian operations manager for a heart and surgical hospital. It's a lot of work but a lot of fun.

  31. do you find the AIMS test frustrating? when i was studying at ASU as an education major, i would always get so riled up over them!

librarians are the coolest! i should have gone to school for that. instead, i'm getting my degree in french integrated with business. on the side, i run my own online vintage store. yay fun jobs!

  32. I used to work at eBay doing customer service, but then I got laid off last year. Now I go to art school and it is one million times more awesome than working, except for the part where I am so so poor. I think I may eventually become a teacher, though, so I think it'll be worth it!

  33. I used to teach English to international college students at a language school in OK and one in Seattle. I've also been a waitress, nanny, apt. manager, tutor, Boys/Girls Club worker, owned a scrapbook kit club, and now I mainly earn income through online art and craft classes (with Elsie) and selling handmades at RVA!
    Wow! Talk about a wanderer!

  35. For some reason I feel like I would be doing a bad thing if I bought a Kindle. I love books, and every facet of them and I'm really afraid they'll be phased out with the technology that's ensuing us. I really think I'm just stubborn and old-fashioned. :) I currently work for a Logistics company as an Executive Administrative Assistant. It's a Monday-Friday job but it seems that I'm always thinking about it when I'm not there. I'm also a mommy, writer, and full time student.
I previously have worked at a lot of vintage stores and Urban Outfitters, which I think by far was my favorite retail job to have.

  36. Oh yes -- I'm writing this comment wright now at my office workstation, after hours. I teach English to corporate Europeans over the internet and the phones.

I used to be an offshore telephone banker/ customer service representative. Terrible! It's not pleasant having people yell at you all day long. I'm just so glad 'm now teaching the language and having fun exchange ideas with people from across the globe.

It is always honest, entertaining and inspiring. Anyways...I work for a publishing company, we are based way out in the English countryside so there is not much to do at lunch time, except keep up to date with my favourite blogs! He he! I am keeping my eyes peeled for a new career adventure but for the time being I love the people i work with and you can't ask for much more than that! xxx

  40. Oh my goodness. Three hours of testing sounds horrid.
I'm 26 and I work at Parliament in New Zealand (I don't elaborate on the internet). It's not what I thought I would be doing but emerged from temping after a year in London and, surprisingly, it's become quite interesting, especially as the role is evolving and I get to write more and more.

  41. I work in insurance and would love a career change, but a) I don't know what I'd like to do, and b) I think I'm a bit old (30, I know it's not old but by the time I retrained...) to do anything else now!

It is refreshing to see so many teachers who read your blog. I am guessing you are a big inspiration to many of them. It gives me hope for the future generation when I see so many talented individuals as teachers.

From there, I'm going to medical school to become a neurosurgeon! Right now, I work at a my malls Hot Topic and that is definitely not going to help me get through medical school, so I decided to get involved in a job that will help educate me as well as give me hours to be able to get me through college! A part-time job just isn't going to cut it. ;]
