Henry is here!

I will definitely be sharing my birth story as some point in the near future, but our darling son was born on Monday, November 22nd at 9:40am. He weighs 7 lbs, 11 oz and is 21 inches long. After 9 hours of natural labor, 2+ hours of pushing...Henry was delivered via emergency c-section. Definitely not how I hoped to give birth, but all that matters is that's he's here! I can't get over how beautiful he is, and Hank and I just sit and stare at this amazing little person that we created.


There's so much more to say, but my focus is going to be on Henry, our little family, and my recovery, so throughout the next couple of weeks I have some AMAZING guest bloggers who will be filling in for me. I will be posting here and there, but I'm definitely excited to share some friends' wonderful posts while I take some time to rest and relax!

Thank you all SO much for all of your kind words, sentiments, emails, tweets, etc. over the past day or two. I appreciate it all so very much!

    Huge huge huge congrats dear Danielle & Hank! Henry looks super adorable. I'm sorry you had to have an emergency c-section. I know how scary that can be, my water broke out of the blue at 34 weeks pregnant and I had to get a c-section 2 hours later. The whole experience was very traumatizing for me, because I was so scared for my little girl! But luckily Henry is super healthy and doing great, I'm so happy for you!! Enjoy the precious baby time and we'll see you when you're back!

  13. Madeleine was an emergency c-section as well but I wasn't disappointed. Like you said, all that matters is he's here and he's healthy by whatever means necessary.

  20. Congrats, he is so beautiful. I also had an emergency c-section after 30 hours of labor and yes it was heavy on my hear. You realize that when you finally see your new baby boy that all the books, classes, and wishes for a natural delivery really doesn't matter anymore, as long as your baby is healthy and happy! Wishing you a speedy recovery as I know how painful it can be! Let everyone baby YOU.

  28. Congratulations to your little family! Henry looks like such a little doll and it definitely has me reminiscing about when my own little one was still so tiny. It goes by fast, I tell you.

    And I wish you the best as far as your recovery! My c-section recovery was painful because I'm hard-headed and refused most pain medicines after the first day or two, ha. It especially hurt when I laughed - which there was a lot of during those first few, precious precious days. :)

  69. I ended up with a c-section as well-- you are so amazing for giving the natural birth such a triumphant go! I just know that I can never be to unhappy with the c-section simply for the sweet little baby who came of it. You will recover, don't worry! =) Congratulations, he is so very beautiful!

  74. Wow! He is so beautiful!! Good job and congrats! I had an unlanned c-section and binding (some hospitals let you take home a binding wrap) really helped me in the recovery aspect. Helped me move around more and moving (carefully!) speeds up recovery. Hoping for a speedy and healthy recovery for you. Welcome Henry!

(he'd be darn adorable either way, but c-section babies tend to be less 'banged up' than those delivered natural birth) can't wait to see more pictures! get lots of rest! <3

    i also ended up having an emergency c-section after around 2 hours of pushing (and hours of natural labor). it was surprising to me because i just never expected it. here's to healing well and happy, healthy babies and moms!!

    p.s. the hardest part of having a c-section for me was the concern i'd have to have c-sections for consecutive deliveries. however, i'm 7 months preggo and delivering at a hospital birth center with a pro-VBAC, midwife centered policy. i'm open to the idea that i may still have to have a c-section, but all of my healthcare providers are really supportive of my efforts to avoid it! anyway, i'm just putting it out there to let you know that a c-section does not have to define your future deliveries!
