One week to a better me!
Happy Monday, and happy first day of the rest of you life! Okay. Really cheesy thing to say, I know...but isn't it true? Every single moment is a new start, but Mondays are so wonderfully symbolic of a true fresh beginning. I'm sure that's why I love them so much- no matter what we did the previous week, we can start anew today.
So, in the spirit of this new week, this new start, and this new day, I thought it would be fun to write five "better myself" goals that I will work on ALL week. The aim of all of these goals is to broaden my horizons, expand my mind, and spend the time I have wisely. These will be small things in five different categories: nutrition, exercise, relationships, creativity, and me-time. The last one is especially a good one for new mamas!
Nutrition: this week I am focusing on branching out and trying some veggies I don't eat on a regular basis. Maybe I'll experiment with radishes or sautee some kale. Mix it up a bit!
Exercise: push ups, wall squats and abs every other night before before bed in addition to my regular workout schedule. Summer's coming!
Relationships: I'm going to plan little morning surprises for Hank everyday this week- waking up early and cooking breakfast, little notes in his lunch, etc. He doesn't always read my blog so I think (I hope!) my secrets are safe!
Creativity: This week I am going to try a fabric/felt flower DIY for our bedroom to put in the white vases on our dresser.
Me-time: I'm FINALLY going to finish the wonderful book "Never Let Me Go."
If you decide to write five small "better yourself" goals for the week, link me below so I can see what you're up to! Have a wonderful week.

Those sound like some great week improvements. I am just busy trying to write my 30 things before I turn 30 (which is still a year and a half away) and boy is it difficult! Maybe I should take a note out of your book and try to write myself a small weekly list instead. Good luck with it!

I adore the idea of setting a few small weekly goals. They're a lot less daunting than big resolutions, so you're more likely to actually achieve them.
ReplyDeleteyou should try making kale chips! The satisfy the crunchy/salty craving when you're trying to eat better.
ReplyDeletehttp://kalynskitchen.blogspot.com/2010/03/recipe-for-roasted-kale-chips-with-sea.html
I follow the same directions with spinach
@Kelly Marie those look AMAZING! Thank you :)
ReplyDeleteWow, I love this idea! I especially love the relationships one. Such a cute/simply thing that can make a huge difference that is sure to make someone smile.
ReplyDeleteGood luck! You're inspiring!
My big goal of this week is to get through my very first week of blogging. Two posts in and it's a blast.
ReplyDeleteI also need to get the weight bench and weights out of the garage and get these shoulders and arms ready for that bridesmaid dress I'll be wearing in 8 weeks.
loved this post!
ReplyDeleteI love fresh starts & new beginnings. That's the best part about life. xo
Great goals! For the same reasons I love Mondays too.
ReplyDeleteThis week, I will read a WHOLE book since the last few months I have read next to nothing. I will do my pilates every evening. I will actually sit down and read the blogs I've been neglecting, and I'll finish my magazine project (still so many to go through!)
I am loving this post! I'm definitely going to take this advice. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! Definitely going to try this out.

ReplyDeleteso so so great! i'm starting right now! though i write in Russian in my blog, here is it: http://iozh.blogspot.com/2011/03/blog-post_21.html
ReplyDeletethenk you again for all the inspiration !
Nutrition: I'm 7 months pregnant and it's so easy to reach for comfort foods, but this week I'll start with a fruit or vegetable when I get hungry for a snack (maybe with a little protein like some hummus to dip it in)
ReplyDeleteExercise: It's getting warm enough in New England that going outside is less of a production, so I'll aim to add in 15-30 minutes of walking each day this week
Relationships: I'm going to listen! I have a tendency to cut my husband off when I think I know what he's going to say, but this week I'm going to zip it. Who knows, I might be surprised and I think he'll be delighted.
Creativity: This week I am going to figure out a work schedule that actually works for me for the last two months of my pregnancy... Trust that this will take some serious creativity (and negotiation skills)
Me-time: This week, I'll file the stack of papers that have been piling up next to my desk. It's a task that will make my workspace so much more pleasant and useable for all of the things I like to do there
I love this idea I am all about goals :) I have changed it to incorporate better blogging for me

i love this idea! great goals you posted, too! i've challenged myself to a 30 day challenge (since the start of march) to do sit ups everyday. i already feel so much better! i like your idea of trying new veggies this week.
ReplyDeleteThose are great goals! I always love Sunday nights because I can sit down and plan my week out. I post 3 goals on my blog every Sunday and then revisit at the end of the week to see how I did. Writing them on the blog keeps me motivated and accountable!

Nutrition: this week I am focusing on planning my daily meals each morning and tracking them (WW) in the morning.
ReplyDeleteExercise: free weights
Relationships: I'm going to work on being nicer to my hubby and I will be seeing a lot of family and friends this week so I will be present in those situations and not worried about superficial things like my appearance or tiredness.
Creativity: I am going to finish my niece's purple scarf and make a morning routine chart for my son.
Me-time: I'm going to read the entire Sunday NY times before Sunday comes again and I am doing my intro life coach session Thursday night at 8 which I think I will enjoy a lot.
Loved this post!!!!! Blogged and linked. So much easier to do when your goals are broken down into bite-size chunks. Thanks Danielle!!!

Whenever I visit your site, Dani, I always leave inspired. I love these five simple goals.
ReplyDeleteLast week I got a hand-me-down Vitamix from my mom, so I'm attempting to replace 2 meals a day with a kale & veggie filled smoothie.
Oh! & I also just got the Tracy Anderson Method Metamorphosis dvds. Today was my first day - so hard, but I'm excited to see changes. xx

go kales!!!!
ReplyDeletewhen i was a child, i used to laugh at my lovely, lovely grandpa, who always added kales to every dish he made, we had rows and rows of them in the garden. Maybe kales are the key to his good health and long life.
Well, what can i say, I'm grown up now, love kales and add them to every dish possible. History repeats :)
Great idea! I love the inspiration you start the week out with. <3
ReplyDeleteLove this! i decided to participate! :) http://www.entrylevelwife.com/2011/03/one-week-to-better-me.html
ReplyDeleteI just started thinking about my own goals, for the spring and summer that is. I want to open my own Etsy shop by June, start getting back into yoga on a regular basis, and start managing my money better! I hope you meet all your own goals!

I absolutely love this idea! A great way (but still simple!) to keep yourself on your toes! I often find myself making a list in my head of things I need to accomplish during the week and then forget by the end of the day. This, for some reason, makes it seems much more doable! :)

This is really inspiring!
ReplyDeleteI was so caught up in thinking up my own things for the categories that in a flash of craziness I signed up to run in a 10k race and raise money for charity, despite the fact I am so bad at running at the moment!
I'm really excited about it, and would never have taken the plunge if I hadn't read your post.
Good luck with your goals! :) Mine are here: http://longlostpenpal.com/2011/03/one-week-to-a-better-me/
So happy I stumbled onto your blog (via Ashley from Pea Blossom)! I love it!
