So, since being pregnant I've somehow developed quite the sweet tooth. It's always been there, lingering below the surface, coming out during Easter when my favorite candy reappears (Cadbury mini eggs), or during Christmas time when my Grandma's pies are in abundance. Typically I only was really drawn to this type of thing during special occasions. I'd never been much of a sugar fanatic. But now, I find myself gravitating towards the dessert case at coffee shops, the candy store downtown, or the cookie aisle in the grocery store far too often for my liking. I enjoy being healthy, and I enjoy the occasional sweet, but as I caught myself eating a fifth Samoa the other day I realized enough was enough! At that moment I swore off Girl Scout cookies (until next year anyway) and vowed to get this sugar loving demon inside of me exorcised (or exercised! get it?! haha). Desserts are delicious treats, but for me, I feel my best when they remain just that- treats- an every once and awhile kinda thing. So, I wracked my brain and recipe bookmarks coming up with some healthy options that will satisfy my sweet tooth but won't sabotage my health/fitness goals. You can click the name of the treat to see the recipe, and the first two are actually from this blog and some of my favorite things in the whole world. Over the next few weeks I'll be trying some of these recipes out, and sharing with all of you here. For now though, here are some GREAT options for anyone with a sweet tooth who'd like to stay more on the healthy side. And if you have a favorite healthy dessert recipe, I'd love to check it out too. Happy snacking!

I have gotten into the worst habit of having dessert after dinner every night. Not good. I'm excited to try some of these recipes with you! And see what other ones people share!
ReplyDeleteSame here! I may or may not have had Hershey Kisses for lunch today.....................
ReplyDeletePerhaps I better give these a look! Thanks for sharing. :)
I just made quinoa with sliced/peeled apples, apple cider, cloves, a tiny bit of sugar, and cinnamon...delicious. I definitely recommend it as a healthy sweet snack.
ReplyDeleteI go through bouts of having a sweet tooth.. I usually opt for more savory items but when I want something sweet it has to be SWEET. I love that you posted some healthy versions of sweets and I am definitely liking the sound of the broiled mango, raw vegan cherry cobbler and the peanut butter balls. I can't wait to make them. MMMM.
ReplyDeleteBefore reading this I sat here, debating whether or not to go downstairs to the hotel lobby and buy M&Ms, ha! I also drink a really sugary juice pretty much every day. I'm thinking of giving up sugar for Lent despite not being Catholic. These recipes look great!
ReplyDeletehere is my most favorite, since the thing i can't give up is ice cream.

I go through these phases where I'm addicted to sweets and then it's gone. But when I'm loving them - ohhh boy is it bad! ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing all these lovely recipes! I can't wait to try them out. Especially the peanut butter balls. Peanut butter is my weakness!

Oh, man, I know how you feel. I have to have something sweet at least once a day.

Thanks for sharing these links! I eat way too much sugar and need to cut down for sure!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Dani. I'm not supposed to eat sugar so these look perfect. Being a diabetic and having a sweet tooth does not a good match make! ;(
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting the vegan recipes! It's hard finding tasty vegan treats to make!

I very recently had to go dairy-free because of my baby's dairy sensitivity, so I've given up a lot of my favorite things, including many sweets. I'm really happy to see some recipes that are friendly to my new diet. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI'm a total sugar fiend :) Thanks for the recipe list! When I have healthy sweet recipes in mind and plentiful fruit in house, it's easy to stay on track... but man oh man to we have some amazingly tempting bakeries in Salt Lake!
ReplyDeleteAlso - You should do a cookbook round up if you have any recommendations or even food blogs you can' live without! I can't wait to get started making some of these!
ReplyDeleteyou're just like me! i can't get enough of those darn mini eggs
ReplyDeleteoh my, these look delicious!
ReplyDeleteI just started a hardcore workout/diet and I'm not supposed to have sweets.
But, I think i HAVE to make an acceptation for these, I have such a huge sweet toot!
I've been following your blog for a while and I love it! I finally decided to make an appearance and comment! :)

My biggest downfall is cadbury mini eggs too! Easter is the best holiday for candy because of those! I have a HUGE sweet tooth that I need to stop feeding into (no pun intended). Thanks for these recipes! I'll be sure to try some out!
ReplyDeleteThis is a GREAT POST. I've been battling the urge to get an ice cream from the freezer for the past two hours.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the sweet recipes!
This is just the post I need. I have a crazy sweet tooth, each tooth in my mouth might as well be screaming for sugar. I'm going to book mark this and make some. I've been wanting to find some substitutions so I can finally get healthy and not ruin the time I do spend at the gym/exercising.
ReplyDeleteYum! I have a vegan food blog with lots of sweet goodies! Check it out, if you'd like :)

Ooh, thanks! My blood sugar drops a lot because of icky gynae problems and I prefer righting it with something healthy than a bar of chocolate - new ideas are ALWAYS welcome!
ReplyDeleteoh i love these recipes. thanks a lot for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThis could NOT have come at a better time! My boyfriend and I are giving up sweets, and I've been needing some sort of "fix"!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
I've always had a sweet tooth and curbing it has been so difficult. I've backslid recently but this reminds me that I once gave up all deserts (including muffins and scones even) during the week. Thanks for providing some encouragement for resolve!
ReplyDeletehave you checked out oh she glows? i like that blog. she has amazing recipes, and they are all vegan, and a lot are quite healthy. All are delicious!

My man's crazy sweet tooth has started rubbing off on me, and I am also trying to stop. Usually any fruit fulfills my sweet cravings, if I really want some desert, baked berries or apples with a little bit of oatmeal and a dash of brown sugar and cinnamon is a favorite too.

ReplyDeleteThis chocolate mousse tastes very much like the real thing and is super healthy. Great idea for an easter treat :)
i'm the same way. once i get started on the sweets it's even harder for me to cut back. i do like them to remain a special treat so i feel gross when i get so used to eating them all of the time. it's also crazy just how much sugar i consume without even meaning to. it's in everything! yogurt, cereal, my favorite crackers...too much.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to resist sweets if you have a sweet tooth. At least, it's true in my case. Thank you for your healthy and sweet recipes will surely help me and others deal with the current dilemma we're having. :D
