What are you afraid of?

 photo 1
{me, this morning- smiling and clearly pre-near-death pigeon experience.}

Today while walking downtown with a friend of mine, a pigeon flew up and swooped down, dangerously close to our heads...and almost gave me a heart attack. Yup, I'm scared of birds. Oddly enough we had the sweetest cockatiel growing up and I don't remember ever being afraid of her, but as time went on I found myself shuddering when a crow would come hopping along the sidewalk, or I'd see a mass of seagulls at the beach. I attribute this fear to two things: one, watching Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds too many times, too young...and two, turkey vultures.  If you don't know what a turkey vulture (aka a buzzard) is, google it, but I promise you, it ain't pretty. My Mom taught at an elementary school that had a large soccer field in the front area, and turkey vultures used to sit atop the goal posts everyday. The adults would tell us to never, ever, ever lay down on the ground for fear the vultures would think we were food and swoop down and attack us. Really adults? You want to tell impressionable seven year olds that huge birds with up to a six foot wingspan might attack us? Whether they would in fact, fly down and think we were prey is up for discussion, but regardless, it terrified me. And I am still scared to this day. Pigeons, crows, seagulls, woodpeckers...heck, even bluebirds scare the living daylights out of me and I WILL cross to the other side of the street if I see a gaggle of particularly menacing geese down by the pond. Not even kidding.

So with that said, I am so curious: what scares you? Do you have a fear, rational or irrational? I have a friend who is terrified of cowboy hats, another who is scared of the ocean, and an ex-boyfriend who didn't like the feel of soap (that relationship ended quickly, haha). But really, I'm curious!

If you'd like, share your fears below, or post about them and link me back here. This should be interesting!

  1. I'm am irrationally afraid of bees (and dragonflies, come to think of it - and this means I TOTALLY get your bird fear) getting stuck in elevators and the dentist. Eek!

  2. Moths scare me...no matter how small they are!
They swoop right for your head (or at least my head!) & make me act like an idiot as I try to run away from them!
Really large moths can scare me to the point of shrieking &/or tears! :( If one manages to get in our house I run & hide under my doona...sad but true!

  3. I am deathly afraid of birds too, I will go out of my way to avoid them. It was difficult living in San Francisco because pigeons and seagulls were everywhere! I do have 11 bird tattoos though...go figure.

  4. I have a huge fear of being in the dark outside at night. For some reason I've always been afraid of something/someone hiding in the bushes, so I can never walk within 2 feet of bushes at night. I think it's a combination of hearing urban myths too early (like the one about a guy who laid underneath a woman's car and took an axe to her achilles heels so she couldn't run away... uh, terrifying) plus watching the news too much and hearing the horrible, but mostly rare, stories of bad things happening to people!

I'm super vigilant at night, but I'm always afraid that it could always happen! I guess since the paranoia overlaps with potential real danger, it's not *that* bad, but it is stressful I think. Interesting topic to discuss, I'm intrigued to hear what everyone else has to say!

  5. Eww birds. Moths too! Anything that flutters really, I including butterflies even though thee pretty! Also, I'm REALLY scared of the ocean. Not so much the water but the sea life. Whales, dolphins, sharks, etc. Hate them all! I also think I'm semi scared of dogs. Since I'm more of a cat person I always get a little nervous around a dog. Like they're out to get me haha!

  6. #1- (serious) anything happening to my family. As a nurse I've seen a lot of bad things happen to good people. Everytime we get a call on the radio for a trauma or a full arrest im petrified it will be someone I love

#2- (crazy) SOCKS! Ughhhh. Just thinking about them make me want to heave. The sound of them rubbing together, the noise they make going over someone rough heel, my husband picking the little pills off them. I can't handle it.

I am going to be in the corner now rocking in the fetal position :-)

  7. I was really afraid of birds too for like 15 years, almost started to cry when they flew by me to close, even small birds were freakin me out. But then one day I just stopped and turned and now birds are my favourite animals. Weird. I still don't like having them in my face, but they are the most fascinating creatures ever. Well, birds and every animal living in the sea.

My todays fears are the old usual, beeing left alone or that something happens to my family or friends.

And ofcourse, mud. I really hate mud. Dry mud on your hands...whew!!
So silly, but still so unpleasant.:)

  8. Aahh! I'm totally scared of birds too!

  9. I am afraid of stuffed animals... I am scared they will start to talk to me at some point.

  10. i'm always convinced that a "bad guy" is always somewhere close to me, ready to slice my ankles. this comes from my parents telling me that at a mall in my state (there were all of two in the entire state anyway), some guy was hiding under cars and slashing peoples' ankles as they got in their cars.
still gets me to this day.

  11. i don't like centipedes or salamanders... something about really slimy, glistening, little wrigglers that creep me out. though, i don't mind snakes at all!

    ReplyDelete
  12. i'm afraid of the ocean, too! i'm also afraid of snakes and being buried alive. i have buried alive nightmares all the time.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I am deathly afraid of spiders. I attribute this to two factors when growing up: one; Arachnophobia came out when I was young and walked in on my mom watching it. Two: when I was four we lived in a duplex and at the time our neighbors had two tarantula spiders, needless to say one night they got out and some how made their way into my bedroom. I had a hard time trying to sleep after that!

However, after working nearly two years in a winery where there are many of my six legged friends, my fear as eased up a bit.

  14. ocean for me! and i have no reason for such sheer terror (never had a bad experience, ever). large bodies of water just freak me out..even baths. i have to take anxiety pills when i go on a ferry because i end up in absolute hysterics. shipwrecks too are something i CANNOT stand.

my friend is scared of birds too haha. they really seem to enjoy going after her too, which doesn't help!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Moths for me too (and butterflies) their flying just seems erratic and I am convinced they are trying to fly into my eyes! If there is one in the room I hide under the covers or run from the room squealing until my husband has removed it. I once woke him in the middle of the night screaming because I was convinced there was one on the wall (there wasn't. Oops)
Spiders too, urgh. Don't hide from them though, I watch them, I have to know where they are, because if I know one is in a room, but don't know where it is. I'm not going in that room! I've been known to jump on tables if they are on the floor. Its like and old Tom & Jerry cartoon when the lady sees mousey Jerry and screams for Tom. :) x

  16. Oh my goodness that movie terrifies me too!! i am scared of birds!!!! haha.
I am also SERIOUSLY afraid of cheese graters and garbage disposals.
And snakes. the site of them makes me want to throw up.

  17. 1. Mosquito hawks! They're like flying spiders!
    2. In July, there are these huge black flying beetles...I think they're called palmetto beetles. I hate them!

    ReplyDelete
  18. I am terrified of being alone in the dark outside. Snakes are my worst nightmare, however. They give me the heebie-jeebies. When I was younger, I was walking bare-foot in a field and a snake slithered over my foot. Ever since, even the thought of having a snake around makes me squirm. *shudder*

  19. Oh and mirrors!! Hubby and I both do! HAHA. We've both seen too many movies!!
and when we go to bed at night we have to close all of the doors.

  20. my irrational fear is vacuuming. i don't know why, but it just totally freaks me out. if i have to vacuum, my heart is pounding the entire time! everyone makes fun of me for it.

  21. my serious fear is heights.... its grown a fair amount as i've gotten older. its like the vertigo takes over and i can't handle it!
and something that sort of gives me the bumpys (goosebumps and gross/werid-ness put together) is belly buttons.... i can look at them, in most cases (i can't if its even slightly irregular), but you better damn well not put your finger in it Or come anywhere near mine!!

that feels good to put my fear out there!

    ReplyDelete
  22. A huge fear for me is being outside alone. In the day and night time though when I'm outside alone at night it gets a lot worse. It's only been about a year since I noticed how terrified I would get when I went outside by myself. Maybe if I took a self defense class or something along those lines I'd feel better about it. :/

Other things that I'm really not fond of include spiders, bees, and carpenter ants. I just had to make the boyfriend kill a spider for me last night.

I used to be terrified of bananas.

    ReplyDelete
  23. First of all, Birds is a scary movie. I don't blame you.

Secondly I have a huge fear of sharks. I realize that 98% of everyone else on earth most likely has the same fear, but mine is so bad (thanks to my older brother who made me watch Jaws repeatedly and told me that Jaws was going to get me every time we would swim in a pool or any other body of water) that I honestly cannot swim by myself... even in a pool.

My imagination runs wild and I just start to think that there's a shark hungry for my blood.

My greatest fear is being attacked by a shark (if you haven't noticed already). I was born and raised in Southern California and I still avoid the ocean. I think that maybe if I were in the water and I saw a shark I would die of a heart attack before it attacked me.

Uggghhhh I shudder just to think of it.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I guess the only thing I can think of is home invasion. Just the thought of someone attacking in your most vulnerable place terrifies me. I have a really good friend who is dealthy afraid of a praying mantis. We're we playing a video game once where the villian was a mantis. I had to convince her it was a bean sprout. She has wrecked her car over one and crys at the sight of them on TV.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I have a MASSIVE fear of birds! Especially pidgeons. They make me want to vomit. I just can't stand them.

    ReplyDelete
  26. That movie is freaky (but so good). I was definitely afraid of birds for a while after I saw it for the first time.

I have a lot of common fears like elevators, heights (ESPECIALLY heights), spiders, needles, and I'm still a little bit afraid of the dark. ;) But I have this really odd phobia (my best friend has it, too, so funny): I am so beyond weirded out by the inside of elbows. HAHA, isn't that the oddest thing?! Getting blood taken is the worst experience for me, needles + inside of my elbow = horrifying. I can barely touch my arm in that area. Weirdo? Totally.

    ReplyDelete
  27. i think your fear of birds is more common than you'd think! the other day, a friend of mine told me she freaked out because a finch was on her porch.. i laughed until i realized she was serious! (i think finches are probably the sweetest birds ever! they're tiny &yellow! but i get it..) i have an irrational fear of spiders, bees &other things that can sting me, heights, &up until a few years ago, port-a-potties. yea, i'm serious. i was deathly afraid i'd fall in one when i was a kid, &didn't break my fear until a few years ago when i began going to music festivals. i had to face my fear, &while i still hate them, they don't scare me anymore, haha ;)

    ReplyDelete
  28. ok, so mine is very irrational, but i have a fear of ambulances! i have no idea why, maybe it was seeing my baby brother being scooped into one after being hit by a car, i dont know. i am trying to overcome the ridiculous fear of something so important via lots of hospital based reality tv! it is ebbing slowly!

    x.

  29. Birds! My dad grew up terrified of them (he was attacked my the family chickens when he was little) and that rubbed off on me. I won't even go into houses where birds are kept as pets. I also don't like mice either. Surprisingly, I don't mind snakes or spiders at all. I actually move spiders outside instead of kill them, and I had a pet snake for awhile (although I made my ex feed it the mice).

  30. Okay this one is a little strange... I HATE hair that is no longer attached to the head! Like when you see hair hanging off the back of a chair or on somebodies clothing. It literally makes me want to throw up. I' also pretty afraid of the dark. But my mum really takes the cake with her phobia, she hates buttons. That's right BUTTONS! Especially buttons that serve no purpose. She hates them so much that she gets goosebumps.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I completely understand your fear because I share it! I just can't do the bird thing, no matter what size. Anything with feathers, beady eyes, & wings - forget it! And their weird twiggy legs/feet! Shudder!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm scared of cockroaches. Ugh - I don't even like looking at the word - but saying it is even worse! Generally when I see them I scream and run away or (if it's a good day) I take deep breaths and walk away. I hate everything about them and I have to change the channel if the Mortein (bug spray) ad comes on the TV. It's completely irrational, but hey, what can you do? I'm also scared of axes, but that is because I had an accident when I was little and ended up cutting my leg open quite badly. So, still kinda irrational, but maybe more understandable ^_^

    ReplyDelete
  33. Oh man, where to start...

People without facial features in movies shaking their heads really fast, people crawling, the hoover, paisley pattern, the feeling and sound of toilet paper or any kind of tissue...

    ReplyDelete
  34. I don't want to encourage your fear but... when I was seven a huge crow landed on my head and started pecking at my skull! ARGH!!!! Terrifying! I never wore a hairband with little berry-like red bobbles on it again.

I'm scared of wasps, electric drills and I get really tense during heavy rain because I'm waiting to see if my roof will leak again.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'm completely terrified of planes! I absolutely hate flying and whenever I have to go on a plane I sit in the seat shaking and I always have to hold someone's hand in take off, so I can never fly alone! I know exactly why I'm afraid of planes too, I mean I know what set it off. When I was about 4 and my Mum and I were staying at my Grandma's one night I woke up really late and really thirsty so I went into the living room where my Mum and Grandma were watching a film. While I was waiting for my Mum to fetch me some water in the film a plane crashed, and it was really graphic and showed you everything; the characters, the crash, the blood. And before my Mum realised what was coming in the film, I'd already seen it. And ever since then I've been terrified of planes. And I know it's silly because I know exactly what set my fear off and films aren't real, but I just HATE flying! I hope to overcome this fear one day but right now, still terrified! xx

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'm completely terrified of birds, too! I've gotten more control over the fear as I've gotten older, and lived in cities with lots of pigeons, but it was immobilizing when I was younger. My grandmother's love bird got tangled up in my hair (!!!) when I was little, so I had a pretty good reason to be scared.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I am TERRIBLY afraid of moths, just the thought of them flying near my ear fluttering *shivers*!

  38. Large SpIdErS! OH my GOSH! you know the ones that you can actually see 'hair' on! we have what they call 'wolf' spiders here in MD. One day while trying to leave work I spun around in my chair to get up from my desk (L-shaped desked-comes into play) and there Right before my sandaled feet was a Wolf spider. We're talking hold out your hand and that's the size of this small beast! Everyone else had gone home for the day so with my heart racing I grabbed a design book off my desk and tried to drop it on the beast trapping me! He scurried away a bit so I grabbed another and shrieking inside dropped it, again he scurried this time under my file cabinet. so i grabbed my stuff left the computer on and ran out the door w/ a massive headache! the next day my boss found him and successfully dropped a book on him and wouldn't you know BABIES scattered like DUST! he quickly hosed the floor down near our showrm display with a cleanser bottle and i THANKED GOD that i did NOT kill that beast b/c our whole office would have been affected with little wolfs b/c this girl would NOT have waited around to kill them all!
needless to say i will NOT plan to kill one of those things again!

  39. Aww, I think birds are so beautiful, but if you're basing your fear on turkey buzzards I can totally see where you're coming from. They can't even be from this planet, they're so hideous.

I must say, I'm a little surprised no one has mentioned clowns yet. In a rare lapse of adult supervision, I managed to watch Stephen King's IT when I was six, and my life has never been the same since. First grade field trip to the circus was traumatizing. Years later, at a Halloween maze, a zombie clown lunged at me from the shadows and I punched him so hard I'm pretty sure I ruptured one of his organs. It's a real problem.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Sharks. I've hated sharks since I was little. I don't enjoy being in the ocean anymore because of it. When I was 8 I was playing in the waves with my Dad when he felt compelled to tell me that we don't ever see sharks, but they're always watching us. Creepy.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I can understand this. I'm not personally afraid of birds, but my MIL is. Whenever we go out to eat, shopping, walk around, we can't do it outside in her fear of birds.

My uncle breeds German Shepards for the LAPD. He has a ranch I'd used to visit. When I was like 5 or 6, I sneaked in the fenced area where the dogs were (not knowing they were there, and obviously my teenage cousins not watching me). All I remember is 4 huge dogs growling, coming out of nowhere. Next thing I remember is waking up in a bloody bath tub with my aunt and uncle pouring alcohol on open wounds. I went to the dr, got everything taken care of. I got lots of stitches, lots of scars, and a fear of LARGE DOGS. Eeek!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I hate snakes. When I was little my big brother (being a normal big brother) would throw them at me while we were exploring our big horse pasture together. Needless to say I quickly wizened up and wouldn't go out there with him anymore! But I still can't stand them, even just the little garter snakes totally freak me out! If I ever dream about them I always wake up kicking my legs and my heart pounding.

    ReplyDelete
  43. i am PETRIFIED of bats. i can't even look at the bat exhibit at the zoo. they're like creepy little chihauhaus that can fly! ::Shudder::

  44. Oh goodness, I HATE rodents! The thought of them makes me shudder! Eeeek!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I am terrified of June bugs and I am so tickled that someone else commented that they were too because everyone tells me that I am nuts. My brothers used to chase me around the house with them when i was little and throw them at me so they got tangled in my hair and my mom (also petrified of the ugly little creatures) would spend like 10 minutes getting their sticky legs from the grasps of my hair. Little did my brothers now, this would cause me to have a lifelong fear of them. I will not go outside at night in the month of May or June.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Junebugs!!! One got caught in my waist-length hair when I was 9 and they've freaked me out ever sInce. (fortunately, I now live somewhere that they hardly exist.) also, oppossums, bees & flying (mostly the taking off and landing) but the doctor gives me Adavant to help w/that when I have to get on a plane. :)

  47. i'm terribly afraid of moths!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I've never had a real phobia until relatively recently - I developed a fear of trains and train crossings. I can be in a train just fine, but being next to it or having it in front of me (like it's coming toward me) scares the bejeezus out of me. I also have hypersensitive hearing, so the loud noise (especially if the train is behind me) makes it feel like it's coming toward me. I get nauseated and start crying, and my knees feel weak when I have to cross in front of a stopped train (like in a city).

This has kind of morphed into a fear of machines that have no visible operator - the first time I noticed the fear was when we were approaching a train crossing where the train had just crossed, and the little arm was coming up to let us pass. I also have anxiety attacks in the car wash for this reason (loud noises, machines moving on their own).

Along with that I have a fear of being chased. If my husband comes up the stairs right after me I have to say "Don't chase me!" and I get all freaked out, haha! The idea of someone chasing me is just too much, I'd probably just give myself up at that point to get away from the stress :)

    Interesting question!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Oh, and I wanted to say that my husband's best Army buddy is also ornithophobic - he was terrorized by some mockingbirds years ago (they attacked him en masse and chased him down a road) and to this day he can't stand birds. In Iraq he'd get rid of camel spiders, etc., but one time they put a live bird under an ammo can on his bed and he nearly had a heart attack. I think it's a pretty common fear!

    ReplyDelete
  50. eww, i don't like birds either specially pigeons. they are gross. and chicken too.

snakes are even worse. i am so scared of them i even get nightmares after just seeing one on tv. And than I wake up shaking and have to get up and shake out my comforter. gives me goosbumps writing about it right now.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I'm really afraid of birds, too. When I was in college they'd be swooping all over campus & I was terrified they'd attack me. I'm also terrified of bees/wasps (anything that buzzes) - there was a next in my parents door when I was younger and I didn't realize that I stood too close while talking too loudly, and some of the wasps attacked me and stung me in my ear - they can sting and sting and never die, too (unlike bees) - it was the most painful thing ever and now I hate being outside in the summer because of it! :(

  53. Moths!!!! OMG. I was trapped in our family car when I was a kid with the doors locked. Unfortunately there was moth stuck in the car with me and I swear he was attacking me.

  59. I am really terrified of earth worms. I can handle spiders and many other creepy crawlers, even snakes, but NOT earth worms. I have memories from when I was a little girl of being chased around by a meanie boy who was throwing earth worms at me, so perhaps that is where the fear started.

I love the rain, but the worms all over the sidewalk ruin it for me. You can literally see me running from my car into buildings on rainy days to escape their attacks, and I ALWAYS wear rain boots because otherwise they would obviously climb into my shoes. *shivers.*

I love reading about people's irrational fears... so interesting!

  60. Up until a week ago, I wasn't too afraid of anything except open water. However, I am now afraid to sleep in my room. My landlord found a middle-aged man hiding under my window. 64. Okay, I'll post my fear being that I honestly think I'm the only human being with this fear. My greatest fear in the world is taxidermy. I will literally cry if I'm around any taxidermy or if it touches me. I have no idea where this fear stems from but I know it was only made worse when my two guy friends in high school tackled me to the ground and had my friend's taxidermied squirrel kiss me. I can't go into rooms with taxidermy, I can't look at it, I don't even like it in movies. I tense up, sweat, and cry. It's odd.

  66. I am TERRIFIED beyond belief of sharks. I can't even look at pictures of them. If I see a video of a shark jumping out of the water, or even a picture, I have to stop whatever I'm doing and pace the room, listen to a song, look at something calming, anything. Absolutely terrified. And I live in Wisconsin, so totally irrational haha.

  74. I'm irrationally terrified of heights - they don't even need to be THAT high. All I need to do is consider how high off the ground I am, or how small the people below me appear, or glance down, and I freak out. "What if I fall" And then I'll kick a rock off the edge, just to see exactly how high I am.
I actually mentioned something about it in my post today :)

  75. I have a huge fear of swimming with fish! I used to FREAK out when my family and I would go to the lake each summer. All of my cousins would jump off the boat into the water and I would sit there on the edge debating whether I wanted to jump in, cool down and die from a fish nibbling on my toe or sit safely on the boat and watch everyone else. Yea.... I'm freaking weird.

  77. I have a couple of fears...
one-Spiders!! EEEEKKK!!! I don't care how small or how big. I hate them. I will cry if I walk into a web.
two-Being murdered (I have no idea why). But I'm terrified of someone killing m..which leads to me to three- being afraid of the dark
four-ferris wheels-I am terrified of how slow they go. even the little ones. I'm afraid I'm going to fall to my death (but I love roller coasters)! I don't get it..

  78. I agree.. birds are SO creepy. But I'm the most scared of june bugs and of throwing up.

  79. Balloons, styrofoam, shrink wrap. (Not so much SCARED, just can't handle being around/the sound of)

I am scared of any sort of fly or insect, except butterflies and ladybugs. I come from Muskoka (in Canada) and there on the lake are what are called "dock spiders". Seriously, google them... FUCKING SCARY and HUGE... They run rampant near the lakes!

I'm also afraid of being murdered/kidnapped. I have a hard time sleeping alone in an empty place, or walking alone at night. I think I watched too many scary movies as a kid.

I'm sure I have more if I think about it harder. Humans are very complex/strange haha.

  80. I am afraid of whales, because of their size. I just feel so frail and fragile whenever I think of them.
My ex boyfriend was/is afraid of butter.

    BUTTER?!>!

  81. what scares me??! uhmm...the most probably drowning since i don't know how to swim :(

  82. Ugh! Birds are so disgusting AND terrifying! They don't bother me as long as they are a pretty decent distance away ...One thing I am terrified of is horses. With enough force I'm pretty sure they could kick a hole through your body :/

  83. I am sooo afraid of the dark, and of spiders! Ever since I was young, I can't go to sleep if my closet door is open, because of the shadows, which is weird. And I also have such a fear of spiders that I can't even kill them!

  84. I have an irrational fear of needles. Irrational, as in I went through labor drug free and got stitches drug free because it was one less shot... yeah. irrational.

  85. I'm afraid of pretty much every common thing there is to be afraid of. Wrote a blog post just for fun and in hopes that when Iw as done I could get myself to go to bed!

  86. My school was right by the beach, and the bastard seagulls used to dive-bomb you when you were walking across the playground and steal your chips (er, fries to you!).

I am also a little bit scared of the dark, but (as everyone above has said) it's because of what might be lurking...interestingly, I'm not afraid of burglars/rapists/anything that might ACTUALLY break into my house - I am scared of monsters or zombies hiding in the dark corners of my house/wardrobe. I had the most vivid nightmare about Freddie Kruger when I was about 16 - he came up and grabbed me from behind with his left arm, then stabbed me in the back with his right hand - I FELT the blades go in! I am also too chicken to say "Candyman" four times in front of a mirror, and I literally have to cover my eyes when the girl from the Exorcist does that backwards spider-walk down the stairs. Er, do you think I've seen too many horror movies?!!

  87. i agree with he calls me wifey....
i have a huge huge huge fear of sharks that has developed sometime in my childhood that i will never be able to shake. growing up i was like a fish in water,... not im lucky if ill go in up to my waist. i even have an uneasy feeling in non-shark waters in canada, where i live. but, i am headed to antigua in 2 weeks, and the sheer thought of getting in the water in a warmer climate where there could potentially be a shark terrifies me to death. SIGH>>>>>

  88. I am also afraid of birds, as well as bees, and heights.

  89. Spiders, cockroaches, beetles, etc. The spider fear may stem from watching Arachnaphobia one too many times as a kid. The worst experience I had--we were looking at a new house that had been built next to mine. We saw a HUGE spider crawl out of a drain pipe. My neighbor squashed it and its back came alive. Hundreds of screaming baby spiders ran off the mom. It was effin terrifying.

  91. I'm really really afraid of dogs and it's quite annoying, because dogs are everywhere. Just like birds by the way.

Don't like frogs either, but I'm more grossed out about them than afraid.

  92. A town not too far from mine celebrates the return of the buzzards every year with a pancake breakfast. I love buzzards.

They would never attack you, though.

Although geese WILL attack you. Don't fuck with them.

I'm afraid of...the dark and heights and swing sets.

  93. jellyfish. I am utterly terrified of them, and will not go NEAR water if I hear even an inkling of a report of them.

  94. I used to be very very afraid of small/big dogs of all kind. My husband (BF) use to tease me back than. Everytime a dog is coming from a distance I change side...if it comes on the left I am on the right...if they have a bunch of dogs I am far far away (hiding...). When I met my pitbull (my bf aka husband have it but didn't tell me...)I am not afraid of dogs anymore ever since. My pitbull help me overcome my fear.

I am afraid of ticks. Doesn't matter if it is on me or on our dog I freak.

Also afraid of posting my personal picture on blog or.... I wasn't afraid until one time a person or two knew every step I was taking...that really scare me. Knew where I lived...this and that. hopefully one day I will overcome it.

  95. I'm scared of way to many things, but I think my irrational fear is lizards! Most people love them, but they are so creepy to me and unfortunately we had a ton around our house last summer. I'm crossing my fingers that won't happen again!

  96. Where to start!? Hahaha. I'm afraid of boats/ships. WILL NOT go on them even if my life depended on it. Also trains! I don't mind being on them though. I'm more afraid of being hit by one in my car! Airplanes as well...I'm basically scared of any transportation besides automobiles...Haha. I'm also afraid of normal bugs like bees/wasps/june bugs/moths...etc. Oh and I'm afraid of my appendix bursting! Every singly time I have a stomach ache, doesn't matter the intensity, I'm freaking out that it's my appendix and I'll have to go have emergency surgery!

My fiance is afraid of cotton balls. Hahaha. It's so odd and random.

  99. I am super afraid of trains and train tracks. I'm always scared my foot will get stuck in the tracks if I'm walking across them. I also have a very irrational fear of quilts. I don't know why but they make me want to gag and run away...

  100. Okay Geese are menacing. A park I frequented back in the day always had geese around it. One time I got out of the car and they spread their wings out and started running towards me and squaking. Whatever geese. They suck.

As for irrational fears, I'm afraid of busting my teeth out when I'm walking around. Although kind of rational because if that happened I feel like pretty much anybody would be displeased. Irrational though, because there really isn't any threat. I find myself running my tongue across my teeth as I'm hiking or something like that...just imagining biting the dirt real hard. Uuuggghhhh.

  101. I'm totally afraid of moths and carpenter bees! We get the bees at our office every once in a while, and I'm absolutely the scared little girl that runs in the bathroom, lol!

  103. I remember reading this post a long time ago and just had to let you know that today a bird flew in my house and hung out for like 45 minutes while my father took his sweet time coming to save me. It was somebody's pet but it kept flying at my face and touching my things. I used to think I was only scared of spiders. But now I apparently am petrified of birds. So I feel your pain.
