Rita's!

So, remember a few days ago when I posted this gratitude list? Well, on that list I mentioned how thankful I was for the anticipation of getting to enjoy Rita's Italian Ice while on the East Coast this summer.  One of my darling readers Alyssa left a comment letting me know that Arizona actually DOES have a Rita's now...and she pretty much made my entire day. I called Hank at work the minute I discovered this- "Oh my god. I have the BEST news!" and I think he thought we won the lottery or something. Luckily he loves Rita's too, so he was just as excited.

Hank had to run down to Phoenix for a work-related function later in the day, so of course Henry and I tagged along...and of course we stopped at Rita's on the way home!  It was absolutely delicious, of course. I got a cherry gelati, which is a cup with custard of your choice on the bottom (I always get the vanilla), topped with fresh Italian ice, then topped with more custard. It's so, so, so good. Hank tried the Swedish Fish flavor and it tasted just like the name suggests.  Both were beyond delicious and so refreshing.

You can bet we'll be stopping by Rita's any and every time we make it down to the valley! See all their locations here.

Happy Italian-icing!

  2. We had a Rita's in my college town (Williamsburg, VA) and I absolutely loved it! We also had a local place called Sno To Go that made "stuffed sno cones".. a sno cone alternating with vanilla soft serve. It was to die for! I'm so excited to get one when I head back home this summer :D

  8. dude, ritas is like THE place to go on the east coast. all along the beaches, it's seriously the hang out spot. i actually used to live across the street from one in rehoboth beach and people would be sitting out there until way past midnight. I FREAKING LOVE RITAS. CAN YOU TELL!?

also, on the first day of summer (at least here) you can get free italian ice at ritas. it's pretty much grand.

  17. Decisions, decisions. Do I drive 70 miles for italian ice, or wait for the one about five miles away to open in August?

I'm leaning towards August, but it sure looks heavenly in this heat!

  18. I love how excited you get about these wonderfully simple things in life!!! My hubby once drove me an hour and a half away to see "Twilight" one more time before it was taken out of the theater. How I love those kinds of moments, just for things you take pleasure in!

  20. We have a couple where I live but I don't really go. It's where all the teens hang out and here, they pretty much destroy everything they set foot on. :( It's sad really.

  21. Asheville, NC just got a Rita's! My husband and I love it. I'm impressed with your big cups, I usually get the kid's size.

    SO good.
Summer Peach is my favorite! Or Mango and 1/2 Black cherry tastes much like it! So SO good.

  22. My mother and all but one of my sisters live outside of Tampa(a good 3 hour plane ride away), so whenever I get to see them it's a big deal. The only thing that makes it bigger? A trip to the Rita's in their neighborhood! You got my exact favorite order :)

Also, the picture of Henry sucking this thumb made a sweet entry even sweeter!

  23. Haha. Dontcha just love making special trips, just to go to somewhere you absolutely adore? They are the best. My husband LOVES Sonic's limeades... but ours closed down... So occasionally, he will ask me randomly if I wanna trek over to the next city and get a pineapple green apple limeade, and I of course, am game!! Fun times!

  24. My husband & I have an ongoing battle over stopping at either Rita’s or Ben & Jerry’s! I love Ben’s, he loves Rita’s! He’s says I am the only person on the planet who doesn’t like Italian Ice & custard and after reading your comments I think he might be right!

  27. There is a Rita's really close to us here in Dallas that I have wanted to try ever since I laid eyes on it, but no one has ever told me they've tried it or if it's any good. Now I can't wait to get down there and taste it. Thanks for the heads up!

  28. Awww memories! I managed a Ritas throughout high school and it was such a fun job! Well it wasn't too fun on 100 degree days in the summer when there were lines at all four windows that reached out to the road!!

But it was to eat whatever we wanted:)
