Hello, September!

the leaves are starting to turn!

I'm not sure what it is, but the moment September 1st rolls around I feel like fall has arrived, even if the weather forecast still reads summer.  I love fall, and every year without fail I get so inspired and feel so excited about all of the fun things just around the corner.  Luckily we live in a town that sees all four seasons, and autumn is especially good to us here, turning the trees beautiful shades of copper and yellow and red, and giving me a reason to unpack my coats and hats and scarves. This fall in particular brings around a lot of excitement- Henry's first Halloween, his first birthday, and the first fall as a stay at home mom. What that means is a lot more time to perfect my pies and cook autumn treats (hello anything and everything apple and pumpkin!). And what this also means is getting to pick out a very special costume for the little guy and decorate our house for my most favorite holiday. Ahh, I really can't wait.

So with that said, welcome September!

What are you most favorite things about fall? I don't drink coffee but if I did I may have to add one of those delicious looking Pumpkin Spice lattes I hear so much about to the list.  And of course another fall favorite: apple cider! Yum. Happy "almost-fall!"

  1. I LOVE fall, it has always been my favourite season. Unfortunately I now live in a country that doesn't have great seasonal variation, but it is still an exciting time. Time to wear some scarves and make some soups and relax and not feel guilty for sitting on the couch under a blanket! I love it.
Also love your New England posts, I have never been there, but after seeing the pictures of lobster I might have to make the trip!

  2. There are many things about fall that I love, but I think my favorites are large pots of soup for crisp, cool days and the smell the air has as it hints that cooler weather is just around the corner.

There just something about it that makes me feel so amazingly alive. I actually wrote an open letter to fall on my blog a few weeks ago...

  10. i LOVE starbucks gingerbread lattes. But I guess that's more of a Christmas thing...

    Whatevz. So delicious.

Last year, we went to a "Haunted Cornfield" and I'm not even joking it was the most terrifying experience of my life. You and Hank should try it out if you have one close by!!

  11. I dont know why, but fall used to kinda depress me. Especially the 1st few years after my mom died... I guess bc fall was right after August. but, when the weather changed, just a bit, that chill in the air would give me such a sense of emptiness. I am SO happy that I can say Fall is one of my favorite seasons now.

I just wish I lived somewhere where we had a season besides summer and... well, a cooler summer.

  12. I adore fall. Even made a post about it on my blog that's how much I love it. The hay rides and pumpkin patches, halloween and thanksgiving, my birthday(which is today!) and all those cute clothes and bonfires and football games. I love everything about it.

  13. The day after Irene swept through the east coast, the morning had that fall smell to it. In NYC it was chilly enough this morning to wear a jacket on the way to the subway so it is feeling very fall here! I was so excited last night thinking about apple picking, baking and Halloween! Henry's first Halloween will be adorable, you must be so excited!

  27. Fall is my favorite season for so many reason but for me, in my mind, it starts October 1st ;) I secretly wished my son would hold out a couple more weeks and end an October baby but that wasn't the plan!

  28. You have no idea how happy I am to hear you say that your part of AZ gets fall weather. I'm so sad about being away from Maine for the best autumn month and it makes me happy that I'll still be able to wear hoodies and enjoy the colors!

  29. Ok, you're like the 12th person today I've heard mention a pumpkin spiced latte, I need to get one of those. My favorite things about Fall are wearing wool like an ivy leaguer, eating lots of soup (mmmm, baked potato...), and listening to the Kinks. I feel like the Kinks (specifically the Village Green Preservation Society) really only fits the Fall. Some friends disagree and say Summer. I say "based on what evidence?" I rest my case.

  30. Oh, Danielle! I love this post. You are such an amazing writer. My most favorite things about fall are wearing lots of hoodies, going to the corn maize, frost on the grass in the early morning, halloween, and pumpkin everything! <3<3

  31. Fall is the best! I love to start celebrating it Sept. 1st too! Even though here in sunny SoCal it'll stay in the 90s for at least another month and a half!

But I can't wait for all the wonderful fall foods, pumpkins and apples and squash!
