3 thoughts on a Wednesday night

a typical scene at our house- a crazed 14-month old running wild and throwing things in the dining room. ;)

1. Hello! Three days later and that awful food poisoning is finally out of here. Thank you universe! Now I know I have the tendency to be a bit overdramatic but I have to say one more time- that was pretty horrible. I've never felt so sick in my life and I fear that I am forever turned off of roasted vegetables.  I got sick from a trio of vegan tacos, where you choose three different fillings. I got the broccoli, seasonal greens, and the mushrooms. The only thing I ate that was different than everyone else was the mushrooms, so I'm thinking it had to be them. Today thought I'm finally feeling better and managed to eat some normal food outside of the Ezekial English Muffins and butter I was living off of. I can't really complain though because English Muffins and butter are pretty amazing, wouldn't you agree? Yum. But Henry and I did actually leave the house finally and spent our afternoon doing some much-needed food shopping and I'm feeling a lot better now that I have some sense of order around these parts.

2. I'm really enjoying getting back to making personal blog posts again. I know that I never really stopped, but I definitely think I wasn't doing it as much as I used to. I had this moment a few weeks back where I found myself unsubscribing to a lot of the blogs I once called my favorites. I just didn't enjoy them as much as I used to, and I thought about why, and realized it was because they were severely lacking in personal posts. If you're a long time reader of this blog you know that I always keep a good balance between sharing and oversharing, but I think as a blog gets bigger it's easy to move all the way over to hardly sharing at all. And then what fun is that? I want to read blogs I find interesting; I want to see pretty pictures of peoples' everyday lives, I want to learn about things I don't know about, hear opinions from all sides of the spectrum. I want to discover new music, new ideas and new things; I want to leave feeling happy and inspired. So when I found myself unfollowing so many blogs I once loved, I looked back at my own and realized that it was very important to me to keep writing about my life, and never get lost in all of the other stuff. So that's where I'm at now. That was a mouthful, but to sum it up: I'm happy to be posting more about my life. And even though it's all just a little piece of the bigger picture, it makes me happy to do so. And I hope you're enjoying it too!

3. Some really awesome things about today-
  • spending close to an hour today talking to one of my favorite people in the entire world, my sweet Emily.
  • reading all of the #SScleaneating tweets. They're incredibly inspiring and I've already found quite a few new blogs and recipes to try out.
  • lots of laughter while playing the "chase game" with Henry. It's just what it sounds like- Henry chases me and then will run into my arms for the biggest hug. Yes, it's as cute as it sounds and yes, my heart melts a million times every day.
Happy Wednesday night, friends! Hope tomorrow is amazing. xo

  1. 1. I am glad you're feeling better 2. You took the words right out of my mouth. I was just skimming through my (very full) google reader tonight thinking about why I dont read as many blogs as I used to and its bc they are lacking in personal/day-to-day content. I like to read them like a story. 3. I need to know where you got those curtains! Awesome!!

    1. I am same way about wanting to read them like a story! It's so much more fun that way. The curtains are from Z Gallerie- I'll tweet you now in case you don't see this reply. :)

  2. I completely understand when blogs become un-personal; I've noticed it myself and it is so sad. I'm glad you are keeping your personal thoughts/life on this blog. That's why I enjoy reading it so much!

Is that a bee plate on your wall?

  5. I feel the exact same way about blogs, especially lately. Link-ups and fun Etsy finds and all that is nice once in awhile, but I like reading about people and I like sharing my life with others. Glad you're writing more personal stuff, I love it! Have a lovely night lady.

  8. Oh I am so happy to hear you're feeling better; food poisoning is THE WORST, holy granola! It took me around 3, maybe 4, years to even touch friend chicken after I got food poisoning from it. Even now it's rare that I eat it!

I've been thinking a lot since reading about the clean eating and then another post on another blog about eating habits effecting emotions and your life which has led me to decide I should really eat better and more healthy. The only thing that bugs me is how all the crappy food is budget friendly but it seems like the fresh fruits/veggies and healthy food would force me to sell my kidney, hahah. But anyways sorry I'm rambling, but yes you've inspired me and I am definitely going to make small changes and hope I end up feeling much better! c:

  9. That sounds horrible!! Since the only thing that you ate that was different was the mushrooms do you think maybe you had a stomach bug? I've had both and they're veryyy similar :/ I'd hate it for you to have an aversion to mushrooms, they're sooo good! Haha glad you're feeling better!

    1. Thank you! :) I don't know - Hank was thinking the same thing, but I am fairly certain it was the food. For some reason though mushrooms don't sound gross. Just those greens and the broccoli. NASTY.

  12. I do not think you are being overdramatic about the food poisoning thing one bit. I've had it twice, and both times I though I was dying a horrible death. I cannot eat onion rings anymore, or frozen Kroger-brand pizza (shameful, I know.) ;)

  13. I'm glad you're feeling better! I've never dealt with food poisoning before *knock on wood* but it just sounds awful! But yeah I've come to notice in the past couple of months that usually my favorite blogs tend to lean closer to the ones that a bit more personal because in a sense they're easier to relate to if that makes sense. Your blog has always been a favorite of mine and I've been following you for a few years now I think, I remember I started following you back when your blog design was pink and I think that was before I got pregnant and my daughter is almost 1.5 now haha!

Oh and by the way that scene in the picture is pretty much always going on in our household. I miss the crawling stage lol.

    Love, Jazmyn

  14. When I read the title of this, I thought "it's only tuesday. This must have been a scheduled post that posted early"... then I moved my mouse over the time thing and realized it IS Wednesday!
Also, I'm glad you're feeling better. I've never had food poisoning but I've heard it's AWFUL!

  15. I've done the same! I find myself unsubscribing from blogs because they have all of a sudden gone very fashion esque and the blogger has clearly become so overwhelmed with their success they shorten their posts down to only a few lines and think that the readers are still going to enjoy it! Don't get me wrong, they can be lovely people but I just enjoy lifestyle blogs plain and simple and the post you did about exercise and getting up a bit earlier was my absolute fave from you! So inspiring! :)

  16. Hey....how do you hang those plates on the wall? I've recently started acquiring cute plates for my wall, but don't know how to hang them.

    Thanks

  18. Off topic, I absolutely love the decor of your home!

I think random features are a fun little additive to a blog for sure, but definitely a balance of personal stuff otherwise you're just reading the same things over and over. I too find myself getting a wee bit tired of constant features, but get joy out of seeing little glimpses in other's lives. I originally started reading blogs for inspiration, humor and just seeing good people do good/fun things. It makes me want to do more things like that myself! So yes, looking forward to some bonus fun posts from you!

  19. Happy you're feeling better! I love your pic! I'm waiting for my little guy to start walking - he's SO close!

On another note - I would love to see a post about what you feed Henry. My little guy is so picky and I'm always on the look out for different things to feed him!

    Take care!

  23. You are oh so right about the personal blogging, and that is why I'm finally going to tell you that I have been not so patiently waiting for posts about Henry's self-weaning & 12 month check up, and I mean every time I check your blog I hope. (My guy is just 6 weeks behing yours and we're going through many of the same things). P.S. Have you heard about the recent US norovirus outbreak? It sounds just like what you had. Maybe it wasn't those veggies after all.

  24. I'm so glad you're feeling better! I had food poisoning not so long ago and it is MISERABLE. It's pretty much one of the worst things ever. Yuck.

  25. Hi Danielle,
I was thinking about your sugar-free diet and how Hank is vegan, and I was wondering if you have ever heard of a book called "the beauty detox solution" by Kimberly Snyder.
(It is not about cutting sugar out of your diet) but I just finished reading it and it is sort of a big revolution for me.
    so interesting and logical!!
If you read it please let me know what you think ! I think you will like it.

I do encourage everyone to have a look at it. maybe not apply everything she says but I am sure everyone can find something to take with them.

I love your blog and your tattoos are an inspiration. xo
