Sad/happy

Last night I was up late (way too late) and decided to look through some old photobooth photos while Henry was asleep and Hank was at the studio. BAD IDEA. I found myself crying, watching little videos Henry and I made, looking at old funny pictures, and reveling in how teeny tiny he once was. I thought about a lot, but mainly about how quickly Henry's first year went by and about how he'd never be that small, ever again. I looked through photos I had taken while he slept on my chest, photos of his first smiles, pictures of his adorable bald head. I got to hear his little coos and listen to the funny sounds he made as a newborn. It was also neat to see myself as a brand new Mom. It made me realize just how painfully fast time has gone by. It was tough, and as I sat there crying and laughing I thought about how grateful I feel to have had all of these moments. Happy and sad. It must have been a middle-of-the-night thing though, because this morning when I woke up I wasn't upset anymore- more so just excited to be right where we are in this exciting 14-month stage. Although I do miss tiny Henry more than I could ever express, I love this Henry even more. And it reminded me to keep taking as many photos as I do, because I can only imagine how I'll feel looking back at these things when he's all grown up.

  1. Margaux is only 7 months old and I'm already weepy over how big she is :( It's so bittersweet to see them learn so much and grow grow grow and to know they'll never be that itty bitty ever again. UGH I'm getting teary right now just thinking about it!

I get sad all the time when I look at Judahs pictures or videos of his newborn baby coo's. Yesterday it hit me hard that he was growing up because I had one of my girlfriends come over with her newborn son. I let her "borrow" some of Judahs really cute outfits to take pictures of her son Holden. I took the same pictures of her son Holden that I took of Judah, in my husbands guitar case or with the onsie with the tie. It was hard afterwards when I was giving her some of Judahs clothing that doesn't fit him anymore.

  5. I just discovered your blog with the Khoury debacle, and I'm already loving it. Looking forward to getting to know you and your family a bit more, here. Also: Henry's absolutely adorable. What a smile. :)

It's funny--I helped raise my brother and sister. Now one of them is 21 and the other is 19. When I look back at pics of them, it's almost unreal. I can't believe those are the babies I used to burp and bathe and change and read to sleep.

  6. Aw, he's such a sweetie!! The love in both of your expressions is precious- I can only imagine how happy/sad this must be for you, but you've got such a sweet little man that I'm sure some cuddles from him at any age will bring you back to enjoying this moment, exactly as it is :)

  11. You are such a great mother for loving your son as much as you do. He's really going to appreciate it when he's old enough to realize that not everyone gets the kind of love he does. (:

  22. Such cuteness. My son is also 14 months and I've been going through this daily- so hard to part with the baby but he's also even more fun now with his giggles and silliness. People always say it goes fast, but until you've lived it you just can't understand how fast it really is!

  25. I hate this feeling! And watching old videos gets me every time. At least they get way more fun the older they get!

  26. I know exactly what you mean. We take tons of photos so it always makes me sad looking back on them now, but each day, and year, has been better than the last. Our kiddo will be 4 in May, 4!!! I cant even fathom 4. What a great post, and wonderful photos, you two are the cuteest!

  27. I have two babies, one is 18 and about to graduate from high school and the other 15. I still remember their smell and how they felt in my arms. I hold them tight often and they think I am crazy. You all need to cherish all of these moments. They do go extremely fast, but I have loved all of the moments with them and each new stage. I am a very proud mom with two amazing kids. Whenever I look at them I realize how lucky I am that they chose ME to be their mom. It is the greatest thing I have ever done.

  30. Our baby boy is one week old today. Thanks for reminding me that, even though I can't see past the sleepless fog and sore boobs, that someday very soon I'll be missing this time of funny faces and squeaky, coo-ey sounds.

  31. What a couple of cuties. I can't quite relate to what you're feeling because I don't have any kids, but I do know how it feels to be nostalgic and miss memories of the past, while being happy with the present as well.
