I had the hardest time choosing which book to highlight as my favorite book, because in all honesty, I have three books that hold "favorite book of all time" in my heart. While I love The Hunger Games, and Jane Eyre equally, I decided upon The Great Gatsby. I remember choosing to read this book back in my junior year of high school for my AP English class. I didn't know anything about it, other than the title sounding familiar. Once I began reading, I was immediately transformed to a completely different time. The roaring 20's seemed so glamorous and beautiful, and I was captivated by it. I was enchanted by Fitzgerald's prose and imagery he created. I knew at the age of 16 that The Great Gatsby had easily filled the "perfect book" spot in my brain. Yes, I have a spot like that. So whenever I feel the need to escape to a different time and place, The Great Gatsby is my go-to read.

Literate & Stylish: Lauren from Busy Bee Lauren
The premise of Literate & Stylish is simple, and the post is short but sweet- every Thursday I'll be showcasing a lovely lady and her favorite book. She'll share a few pretty photos showing off her personal style, along with her book of choice, and tell us why she loves it.

ReplyDeletei really need to read this again! i hated the English teacher that assigned it and thus i didn't like any books i read that year...i really should give it another chance, because i think it has potential.
ReplyDeleteYes! Give it another go!!
DeleteI actually just bought it so I could give it another go, too... i had a similar high school experience! here's to a summer of the great gatsby!
DeleteI am the same way! I had to read it in high school and hated the class/teacher so therefore I hated the book. But everyone says how much they love it so I guess I need to give it another chance :)

DeleteI also fell in love with F. Scott Fitzgerald reading The Great Gatsby in 11th grade AP English class. Every spring since I get an urge to pull out one of Fitzgerald's novels or collection of short stories and sit on the porch, read and be transported to the 20's. There is something so amazing about Fitzgerald's beautiful style and the time period is my favorite. His short stories are also wonderful and I would highly recommend them. Thanks for sharing this!!

ReplyDeleteI've worked in bookshops and libraries over the years and I've lost count of the number of times I've hidden amongst the book shelves re-reading the very last page of this book. It's one of my absolute favourites and I can't wait for the film. Lovely post :)

ReplyDeleteFor those who are new to this book and reading it on their own, definitely check out the cliff's notes or other companion books to fully appreciate all of the amazing symbolism that is hidden within this gem of a book. Love the Great Gatsby for this quote: "I like large parties. They're so intimate. At small parties there isn't any privacy." So true!! F. Scott Fitzgerald just gets it.
