If You Really Knew Me...

good morning!

I've seen this fun post floating around so I thought I'd give it a try. I talk about the whole "blog world/real world" thing with my friends a lot, so it's always interesting to get a little more personal in this space. Although I do share a good amount about myself here, Sometimes Sweet is really just a small part of my world and a little slice of my life- I definitely don't put it all out there. So, I thought it would be fun to play along and share a bit more. And you decide to participate, be sure to link me in the comments so I can check out yours too!

If you really knew me...

you'd know that I can at times swear like a sailor. I started this blog when I was teaching, so I always kept this space incredibly PC. As this blog evolved and my audience grew I found that it was important to me to continue that, but in real life I am no stranger to a good curse word, with the f-word being my most favorite. Now as a parent though I have tried to totally cut bad words out of my vocabulary but every now and again one will slip.

you'd know that as much as I try to like it, I just can't get into watching entire sports games. This is odd considering I was heavily involved in sports growing up and also that my entire family are sports fanatics, but I can't do it. I always say, "maybe this year!" although it never seems to happen.

you'd know that in my younger years- in high school and college- I was a party animal, wild child or whatever you want to call it. It's funny to look back on all of my crazy memories, and to also recognize how much things have changed. But if you knew me you'd also know that to this day if you give me a dance floor and some girlfriends, I am the happiest.

you'd know I get kind of stressed out about not responding to every comment on my blog, IG, twitter, etc. I try my best but sometimes before I go to sleep I think about that and I feel really bad. I never want people to think I don't appreciate them stopping by here, or one of my other sites. Maybe that's silly to stress about but it's a frequent thought on my mind.

you'd know how much I LOVE rap and hip hop. Love, love, love.

you'd know that I definitely don't like everyone, but I am a polite person with good manners so I am at least cordial. In the past people have mistaken my niceness as fakeness which would bum me out, but really, I just refuse to be impolite.

you'd know that I have learned more than I ever thought I'd learn from this blog: how to laugh at myself (reading back in my archives even just a couple of years ago can be hilarious), that not everyone will like me and that's okay, how to deal with negativity, how to be more real with myself in a public forum...the list goes on.

you'd know that I one day hope to write a book. It's the biggest personal goal I have for myself and one I don't talk about too often.

you'd know how much I genuinely love life. I know it's beyond annoying to read a blog that is like "YES OMG I LOVE LIFE AND TODAY AND EVERYTHING IN MY WORLD" but I often feel that way and force myself to turn it down a few notches.

you'd know that my favorite thing to do in the entire world is exercise, that Cinnamon Toast Crunch is forbidden in our house (it's my weird, secret weakness), how I could live on Gouda cheese and Cadbury mini eggs, that I don't care very much about shoes and would be happy to wear flip flops every single day, how much I overuse smiley faces and exclamation points when I text, and how much I detest birds- especially crows digging through garbage. It makes me want to dry heave just thinking about it.

How about you?

  3. I am right there with you with the smiley faces & exclamation points - I probably overuse them. But I want people to know i'm saying things with happiness, not in a monotone ha. I also really hate birds in real life too.

  5. This is a really fun idea. And I use smileys too often, it's becoming a bad habit!

  6. I love this- and I'm totally with you on the smiley faces and exclamation points! I literally have to force myself to use full stops!(.) And the bird thing- OMG i hate birds, i have had around 3 pigeons fly into my head and been pooped on numerous times! lol

  8. Oh I love this! It's funny how some parts of our personality come out SO EASILY on our blog whereas other parts don't. I think it's good that your swearing habits don't necessarily show in your writing, it just shows that you have good penmanship and I don't think it's NOT being true to yourself. I don't know if that made sense but anyway, ha :)

I've also been feeling that "OMG I LOVE LIFE!!!" kinda thing and it's reflected in my blog I think, but again that can't be a reallyyyy bad thing, can it? As long as it's not in a bragging manner (which you never do) then I think you've just got a positive outlook on life and it makes your space a good place to visit and make someone smile! I know that your positive attitude is a big reason I read your blog every day, it's nice to read that someone is enjoying all the little things going on in their life.

Fun post! I may steal it at some point! :)

  11. Ive been reading since (almost) the very beginning. I think you're awesome and I think more people could stand to have a little bit of your love for life. Also, !Amen! for flip flops and sailors mouths! <3

  12. I'd like to read a book by you because I like the way you write on this blog. One thing about me is that I did jujitsu for a few years when I was younger!

  13. I just started a new blog and this is great! I think I'll use it for an upcoming post. :)

  14. I'm so there too with the being an athlete/having zero interest watching sports on tv. It's so boring! I'd rather be playing. And I can never really get into watching the Olympics either. I love looking at photos and reading the results and stories of the athletes but I just never really watch them.

  15. I couldn't agree more about the birds and the cinnamon toast crunch, respectively. I did find an organic brand of CTC, though I still feel guilty for eating it because it's loaded with sugar.

  16. I knew about the rap and hip hop because you would post a song you were listening to on Instagram. I love love that about you :) And that you cuss, thank you! You should join my Mamas That Love Hip Hop bloghop!

  17. I would buy your book! So, start writing! :)

  18. You should try and write a book! It's not as hard as people think it is. I just wrote my first novel this year and all it took was 2 hours out of my day every day. You can do it!

I love that you try and respond to all your comments, even with so many followers! I totally wouldn't expect you to reply to everything. I'm guilty of forgetting to respond to some comments and I have about 2% of the readers you have. For the first time ever I started sponsoring a blog last month and the chick hasn't replied to any of my comments even once- not even a thank you for sponsoring! Bums me out. Us "little bloggers" love to get the occasional acknowledgement. Thanks!

  21. I've really enjoyed following this series around the blog world. It's cool to read about the quirky details of a person instead of just a tailored About Me.
I've been meaning to leave a note on here for awhile and let you know how much I enjoy your posts. It seems like you really put thought into what you're writing and yet you write as if you were just carrying on a conversation with a friend. To me, that's talent.
    Keep the posts coming!!

  22. It was exciting to get to know you more! I used to swear when I was 8-10 then stopped completely because it bored me and started to actually irritate me to hear others do it, so I stopped. I still cringe when I hear it. haha. probably a bit of your polar opposite, I am.

Cinnamon Toast Crunch is a problem for me too. I used to be able to have 7 bowls.. . I don't buy it either, maybe not since before I was pregnant (6 years ago). Cadbury eggs (mini and large) are addicting, this is so true.

I wrote a book over the course of the past five years but now. . .don't know what to do about it. I don't know if I get an agent or find a publisher. I think the biggest set-back is not having the money for either. Perhaps one day it will happen. Hope that you have success in your endeavors whenever they occur too.

  23. OMG I'm a curser too. I'm trying to cut back, but it's just so hard. The "f" word is just so useful!

  25. I feel like a horrible parent because i use F word and other words far far too much ! I think sometimes it is the way that we express ourselves and the world that we live in has changed. I am sure you learned this well while teaching people and kids are just different now. I find the generation X,Y AND Z to be very interesting indeed and gives a lot of insight into our children ! I love ur blog ! and your a great mom and you share great things that make people remember and think which is what great writing is !

  26. im with ya on a lot of that but the birds! oh man, i SO agree. how gross are birds. eff birds.

  27. I'm cracking up over the Cinnamon Toast Crunch. If you're like me...the problem probably started back during those wild high school days. Ha! I feel the same way about that one. Hee hee.

  28. Potty mouths unite!! (One of my nicknames in college was "Cuss Mouth" ;)) Sometimes a good swear word just feels SO right.

    Love you, lady <3

  32. Crows are foul, foul creatures. I also do not like pigeons. My toddler is obsessed with birds right now, and it freaks me out. I do like owls, though, so maybe I'm just a hypocrite.

  33. This was a lovely insight into the real life you! I am totally with you on almost everything in the last paragraph, except for cinnamon toast crunch as I have no clue what it is...and I'm working on loving exercise but I’m not there yet!!

  35. The fact that you want to write a book makes me happy. Once I found your blog a few years ago, you quickly became my favorite blog writer--as in, a blogger who really WRITES, if that makes sense. And more recently, as your blog grew, and especially when you started writing for HelloGiggles, I've often wondered how a publisher hasn't hooked you yet! ;) Needless to say, I'm waiting with bated breath for the book!

  38. So many things to love about this psst. Mini Cadbury eggs, hip hop and rap music (I specifically have a soft spot for all hip hop music that involves string instruments), and the fact that you're so happy with life - that makes me happy to hear :)

As for the wild child-ness. Maybe a top 10 post is in order for that? Sounds interesting.

  39. This was awesome. I am right there with you on the Cadbury Eggs. Mine have to be mini too, the big ones have this wacked out filling to chocolate ratio. Thank you for inspiring me to create a post of my own.

  42. I love this post! It's another way for others to get to know you and surprisingly, with this, you also get to know yourself better! :-) Ever since I came across your blog through A Beautiful Mess, I am just hooked. I enjoy reading your posts because they are very interesting and it's just that I can relate to most of what you are sharing here! :-)

I will join with this If You Knew Me post and I would love for people to get to know me even more! :-)

  43. Love your blog! Have you tried the cinnamon flavor puffin cereal at trader joe's? It tastes awesome and is pretty healthy.

  44. I also am not a stranger to a good curse word or f-bomb. I try to keep it clean around my younger brother who's 3. I just got back to college and found it just a tad shocking how much a curse after so long without doing so. Haha. I LOVE cinnamon toast crunch (it's also a weird secret weakness for myself) and am one of those people who definitely refuses to be impolite unless someone crosses a major line with me or somebody I care about (family/close friends/etc).

  45. I loved this! I can relate to so much of this (especially the surprising love of dancing and hip hop). I've been reading your blog for a while (first time making a comment) and it's one of the only ones I actually find authentic to be honest.

  50. I honestly love every single one of your tattoos.
I can't count the times I read this post (I bookmarked it, not to look like a creepy stalker or anything, I just love it!)
I really really want to get a tattoo too!
It's my 20th birthday on the 24th of August.
And I really want to get my first tattoo before I'm 21 :D
My mom does not like tattoos at all, but my dad does! So maybe I'll get him on my side and my boyfriend likes them too, so that's nice too :D
    love, Saar.
