Dangerous Angels by Francesca Lia Block
Before there was The Twilight Saga, there was Dangerous Angels: The Weetzie Bat Book Series. It's been quite a few years since I read these, but I remember them being so magical. It changed the way I felt about books. I became a part of Weetzie Bat's enchanting dream world and I didn't want to leave. It is a gritty, luminous modern day fairy tale about the struggles of growing up, love, lust, pain and heartbreak. I loved the character's names (My Secret Agent Lover Man & Witch Baby) and unique language (lanky lizards!). I'm looking forward to reading it again. Love is a dangerous angel...

If you love the characters and language of Block, you must read Terry Pratchett's "The Wee Free Men"!
ReplyDelete(Though I should note you won't find romance, simply a young girl's dream / fairy world.)
ReplyDeleteI'm re-reading Witch Baby for the millionth time. It's always magical.
ReplyDeletethis is my favourite book of all time!
ReplyDeleteAww, FLB lovin'! The Dangerous Angels series had a profound effect on my world view... searching for the wonder and whimsy in everything. (And one of these days I'm going to "Shangri-L.A." and getting myself an Oki-dog!)
