Weekend Links & A Few Things

Enjoying this beautiful weather!
Downtown yesterday, playing with trucks and enjoying the wonderful weather we've been having. I know I'm biased, but he is really the most beautiful little thing I've ever seen. My heart!

A few things:

1. I'm doing a fun collaboration with Elizabeth St. called Instamom. Every month they will be holding a contest (read more about it here), and to enter this month, simply hashtag your "fall fun" Instagram photos with #esfallfun. I also contributed an article about my 5 Instagram Tips for Moms, so pop over and check it out!

2. Thank you all SO much for all of the kind words about the amazing blog design Liz created for Sometimes Sweet. I wanted something insanely simple, clean, and easy to navigate, and she definitely delivered. After reading through all of your comments she also darkened up the link font, added navigation to the bottom of the page, and put my search box and archives back, all the way at the bottom of the left hand side. If you have any other issues, please let me know. And thank you so much again for taking the time to leave such sweet comments about it.

3. I am no longer taking submissions for Literate & Stylish. I have a ton to go through, and once I hit the bottom of them I'll figure out if I'll want to continue the feature for another go-round, or move onto something new. I'm thinking it'll probably be the latter, but if I open it back up I'll let you know!

4. Do any of you have any suggestions on fun things to do in Las Vegas that don't include drinking or partying? ha. I will be there next week for a couple of days with two of my girlfriends, and we just want to have a relaxing time. We choose Vegas because it's a cheap place to all meet, right in the middle, and we are just looking to eat a ton of good food and enjoy the sights and shops. So if you have any recommendations for delicious eats (vegetarian-friendly, please) and/or sweet treats, I'd love to hear 'em!

In other news, it's Friday! Yay! We have a family photo shoot tomorrow morning, and then a bbq over here on Sunday afternoon. It should be a great weekend full of friends and fun. I hope you have a good one too!

One of the prettiest and best blogs I've come across in awhile. If you like food or breakfast (aka if you're human), you'll love Simply Breakfast.

Hank sent me this link yesterday. It's upsetting to imagine a world without PBS. Unfortunately, it may one day become a reality.  Here's a bit more on it via HP too.

Lentil Walnut Apple Loaf. This looks great!

Love this free October desktop wallpaper.

And speaking of free, here are 16 pretty fonts.

Carrot, Zucchini, and Parsnip frittata fingers. Say what?

A post on finding balance.

Love this idea for a nature hunt with little ones. I can't wait to do this with Henry next year.

What a bright, beautiful print!

It was neat to hear about Amanda's beautiful wedding.

Alice Walker on censorship.

Natural hair remedy time

What are you thoughts on Here Comes Honey Boo Boo Child? I had no idea what they made per episode...but I do now!

Lies I Tell My Toddler. A great read over on Mommy Shorts.

And finally, a wonderful post about being right here, right now.

Happy weekend! xoxo

  1. When I went to the Obama Rally today at George Mason they mentioned the PBS thing. I stood there holding my child slack mouth shocked because honestly I can't imagine him growing up with out PBS. It breaks my heart.

okay on better news because it really did break my heart. I am so excited to see your family pictures! Also I have a good friend Jay who works in Vegas as a designer for Ceasars, I'll ask him if he has any recommendations.

I hope you have a beautiful weekend with your family

  2. Have fun in Vegas! I'm sure you'll find plenty to do with your friends. I wish I had some great suggestions for you. And, what great links. I've enjoyed each and every one.

  3. The PBS thing makes me SO mad. I grew up on PBS and want my future children to grow up with it, too. Taking away important, educational programming is NOT going to help our economy. It's just not. Absolutely ridiculous.

On a happier note - Simply Breakfast is amazing, right?! I think it was one of the first blogs I ever read, actually! So, so good.

Oh precious Henry... he has the sweetest cheeks I've ever seen! So stinkin' cute. <3

  4. I watched HCHBB one day when I happened to have left it on in the background. It. is. disgusting. Burping in each others' faces? Farting on each others' legs? Peeing on the couch? Gross. Seriously, what makes people watch that junk? (I won't be watching anymore.)

  5. Have fun in Vegas. I've always wanted to go there.
As for things to do since it's almost Halloween Eli Roth just opened a haunted hotel like thing that's open year round. It's called Goretorium. I hear its pretty cool. You should check it out if you and your friends are into that kind of thing.

  6. The Sugar Factory over at The Paris is amazing. Even if you're not a drinker (though they have INCREDIBLE drinks) their menu is huge and has tons to offer everyone. :) have a great time!

  7. Here's the site

  8. i do love your new blog it looks great. have an awesome photo shoot tomorrow!

  9. growing up, i had a small tv in my bedroom that only picked up the core five channels, pbs being one of them. i can remember many nights sitting up in my room watching whatever was on pbs, whether it be a ballet, a british comedy, or even a telethon with pink floyd. and while we don't necessarily watch much of the channel right now, it is sad to think that it would just be gone for good.

  10. While you are in Vegas you must go and see the Cirque show Mystere. It will blow your mind it is so great! I have seen it twice and would go again.

  11. All I want to keep telling you is that you are my favorite blog!

  12. we love las vegas! it's our go-to cheaper vacay too. we can't get enough of eating at cafe gelato in the bellagio at least once while we're there-SO good! and really, we just enjoy spending as much time by the pool as possible. if you haven't checked out the new city center, it's definitely worth seeing. especially the new shopping mall. have a great time!

  13. thank you so much dani for sharing my blog on your weekend links! i really appreciate all the beautiful comments about my special day :)

thank you again and happy thanksgiving from canada :)!

    Amanda Roberts

  14. I have no suggestions for Vegas but if you get any good ones can you please share them? I'm getting married in Vegas next month (and at the same time celebrating my birthday) and I have no clue what I'm going to do to celebrate as I don't like alcohol and I'm not a party person at all. I just love Vegas haha! :P

  15. I used to live in Vegas. : ) There is the most incredible restaurant, off the Strip, set up against the Red Rock mountains, called Vintner Grill (10100 W Charleston Blvd). It has a sort of vintage, Casablanca vibe and the food is absolutely incredible.

(Actually, now that I'm looking it up, it turns out they have a new location ON the Strip, as well. I wouldn't go to that one...)

Being as athletic as you are, I would also try to carve out some time to hike the Red Rocks. So beautiful this time of year.

I regret not having time to get to the Neon Boneyard! I'd suggest checking that out (so i can see your pictures after haha)

and please go to Payard Pâtisserie & Bistro in Caesars palace. chocolate waffle with nutella and banana!! best breakfast ever!

You don't even need any plans I'm sure you guys will keep yourselves busy

  17. Every restaurant at the Wynn and Encore in Vegas has vegan options. Steve Wynn, the owner, went vegan, and now it's easy to eat there! Bolero, the steak house, has an entire vegan menu, and it's fantastic.

  18. I'm from Vegas - I suggest going out to Red Rock and hiking...It's BEAUTIFUL!

  19. Thank you so much for apologizing for using the word "retarted".

I work with adults and children with special needs and this word is very hurtful to them. Even working with these amazing people I have slipped up and used that awful "r" word as well and instantly wish I could rewind and take it back.

Everyone slips up and its awesome that you acknowledge that it is a hurtful word. Even the individuals I work with use this word towards others at times and realize after it shouldn`t have been said.
Many use this word without even realizing how hurtful this could be to others so thank you for taking the time to apologize :)

  20. You guys should check out the Mob Museum while in Vegas! It's brand new and very fun/interactive. I even brought our six month old along when we went! Have fun!

  21. If you're interested in going to a spa, I highly recommend Qua at Caesar's Palace. It's gorgeous and has an arctic room with moisturizing snow! You can even use their fitness center.

  22. I would also recommend a Cirque de Soleil show. I saw Love while I was there. But there are so many options you should probably just choose one on the kind of music you like :)

  23. Thanks so much for sharing my post! Hope you had fun in Vegas!

  24. Appreciate the recommendation. Let me try it out.
