1st Trimester Must-Haves

My friend Rachael posted some of her First Trimester Lifesavers, and I thought it would be fun to share some of the things I've been loving this time around too (two image boards in one week? Hope you'll bear with me!). I've mentioned it before but this pregnancy has been really different than my first. Luckily this week my energy finally returned but over the past few months there have been some very specific things that have kept me sane!

1. Rainbow Light Prenatal Vitamins. I LOVE these vitamins for a few reasons- but mainly because they don't upset my stomach at all. I've taken them all times of the day, stomach full of food or not, and they've never made me feel ill. They're also a food-based multi-vitamin which is awesome, and you only have to take one a day.

2. Chobani yogurt. I'm not always the biggest dairy person but lately I've been so into Greek yogurt, especially Chobani's Apple Cinnamon and Black Cherry. I add in all sort of different things to mix it up (granola, frozen fruit, etc.), and I love that it's a healthier choice for a sweet treat for the end of the night, chock full of calcium and protein for the baby.

3. Clementine oranges. Henry and I have been eating a box of these a week. Cannot get enough!

4. Champion seamless cami sports bras. Target sells a few different versions of this bra, but the photo above is the exact one I love. I have a ton of them in different colors and wear them almost everyday when I can get away with it. Once of my first (and most annoying, in my opinion) pregnancy symptoms is a bigger chest. Almost overnight I had to say goodbye to my small Bs. Some women love this change but as for me, no thanks. I get through it though by wearing comfy things up top, and this bra is a lifesaver for sure.

5. Old Navy's maternity leggings. I've tried a ton of different types, and these are hands down the best. They're incredibly comfortable with a totally non-binding waistband that makes lounging and running errands that much better. Throw on a cute tunic and flats and you're good to go!

6. Bio-Oil. I used this last pregnancy, in conjunction with a cream (I can't for the life of me remember what it was called), but the latter stained almost all of our sheets and clothing I wore it with. I didn't get one stretch mark though, and although I know it's largely due to genetics, but I do think the Bio-Oil had something to do with it. I use it twice a day, and love the smell.

7. Broadways Calls Oregon. This might be an odd choice but I've been listening to this album non-stop while doing cardio this pregnancy. I think a couple good albums you love are so important to have loaded on your phone so you can really unwind and unplug while you exercise. I've been using either the treadmill or elliptical most mornings and this album has been my best friend. Maybe the baby will come out already a Broadway Calls fan?

8. Belli products. This is a new find and I'm SO thankful for both this Acne Spot Control Treatment and the Anti-blemish Face Wash. I haven't had any morning sickness but I have had to deal with some acne, and the Belli line has helped immensely. Plus, it's formulated especially for pregnant women so unlike most over-the-counter acne treatments you know it's safe for the little one. They offer many, many products for pregnant women so be sure to check them out.

9. Camelbak Water Bottle. I aim to drink 3 of these of a day, and being able to refill it keeps me on track with my water intake.

10. Omega Mom Prenatal Fish Oil (Omega 3) and Borage Seed capsules. I take two of these everyday along with my prenatal vitamin, and unlike many fish oil products, these have zero aftertaste and don't bother my stomach either. Love them.

Fellow mamas, is there anything you'd add to your own list?

 xoxo

p.s. this post is completely unsponsored, but I did use Amazon affiliate linking on #1, 6, 8 and 10.

  1. Hi Danielle! I don't think I ever made it over here to say congrats on baby #2!

My lifesaver was lemon drops! I just popped one in my mouth any time I felt sick and it helped me concentrate on the sour instead of the sick feeling :) I couldn't have lived without them!

    1. Oh yum! Lemon drops are so delicious and I haven't had any forever. Thanks for the reminder! ;)

And thank you for the congratulations! We're just over the moon.

  2. I've used a cream called Prevent for my first two and now my third pregnancy. It is all natural and locally made here in Louisiana and it is phenomenal. I give it to all of my friends when they are pregnant and not a single one of us has any stretch marks! Plus it smells great!
Love this list, I am going to look into those vitamins!

  4. I love Broadway Calls.. but I love punk! The hubby and I just picked up a record by The Copyrights.. you might like, if you've never heard of them.

  5. Oh be careful what you listen to. I was really into Gas Light Anthem during my morning sickness, it totally got me though. The problem now is, whenever I hear it, I want to throw up. It's like PTSD and that Broadway Calls album is too good to waste ;)

although, now that you're into your second trimester I'm sure the nausea is gone.

  6. I love this list! I used Bio Oil on a scar I got this summer from a scooter accident, and it worked miracles.

This question gives me away as the newbie-blogger that I am, but could you please let me know how you do your image boards? I love the layout. I use PicMonkey and picasa, so I know how to deal with the text, but how do you get the images to look like they're floating in mid air? Thanks so much!

  8. Bio Oil is the best thing! Sister, nieces, Mum all got bad stretch marks I used Bio oil and have none. Not sure if you are having a C section or not. But if you are going for natural birth, rub Bio Oil into your perineum twice a day. a mid-wife advised me to do this. To be more pliable and to prevent tearing.

  9. I think that I only had two first trimester must haves--my couch to nap on, and zantac to fight off the wildly horrific heartburn that I had. Now that I'm nearly cruising into the 3rd trimester, I'm finding that old familiar friend the couch again, and would say that smoothies and tons of water are my go tos. I still need to buy some maternity friendly clothes, so I will be looking at those leggings. I feel like I missed the retail boat on maternity tights since everyone is all bikini'd now.

  10. Great list, Danielle! Random, but how do you make one of these image boards? They are so visually appealing. :)

  11. Ginger everything!!! I had pretty yucky morning sickness during my pregnancy (probably doubled due to having twins), and I ate ginger like crazy. Ginger chews, candies, tea... Also lemon slices in water really helped. And B6 lozenges. All must-haves in the 1st trimester! :)

  12. congratulations! i am due around the same time as you i think, late august, and i've been hesitant to by a fish oil pill without a recommendation. the ones i use now are really, really bad. also, maternity leggings! i am going to check out old navy's now. thanks for sharing!

  13. Frozen grapes were my lifesaver during the first trimester! Coconut oil was what I used to help with stretch marks :) I didn't get a single one!

  14. I seriously lived in my maternity leggings from Old Navy. My best friend works there part time, and sent me a pair (there isn't a store near me).. I was SO thankful!!!

I used organic extra virgin coconut oil as a moisturizer (and still do! - on me, and baby) and didn't get any stretch marks!

Looking forward to more updates from you :D

  15. I'm pinning this for later for some of the products you've mentioned. My husband and I are going to try for a family soon so I want to remember some of this! But I currently have a Chobani obsession myself with their pear flavor. Have you tried it? It's my favorite!

  16. Red hots! And Liz Lange maternity tanks. I still wear these everyday for nursing.

  17. Could you do an updated "What's in my bag?" post? I'd love to know what you carry in your purse now that you're pregnant again. And do you still use that red wallet? What brand is it?

  19. I'm a HUGE fan of LUSH's Coco Lotion to ward off stretch marks. Like you said, a lot of it is due to genetics but I used this my first pregnancy and, now, 36 weeks into my second and I don't have one stretch mark. I like that it's natural and an alternative to products with cocoa butter (which contains trace amounts of caffeine, which I aim to stay away from). That's totally what I would add to my list of pregnancy must-haves.

  20. 1ST Tri Baby No.2 & I second your points on the chest and acne and prenatal vitamin hiccups (blah). Im loving Bio Oil and those very same bras! Going to test the waters with those vitamins and Belli products... I had forgotten how pimples can hurt. Good thinking on the water bottle ... duh! Thanks for his post; most practical one that I've seen yet.

  21. I take those vitamins, too. What a relief that they don't upset my stomach. Have you tried the blood orange flavor of Chobani? That's my favorite. My list would include pineapple, popsicles, warm baths, Vitamin Water, and sweatshirts - because I've been freezing the whole time!

  22. Fruit! Any kind of fruit. Thats all I want to eat right now!

  23. Oh, I couldn't handle any fish oil! It made me sicker than the pregnancy itself! I put together a little list when I was pregnant too: http://aforeverhouse.blogspot.com/2011/11/pregnancy-survival-kit.html

  25. I am due any day! Over the summer (I got pregnant in June), I ate scrambled eggs with sourdough toast for breakfast almost every day. I tried not to overdo it bc I was worried baby would come out with an egg allergy, but man. Nothing else sounded good at all!

Also, Protonix for the acid reflux. I could not live without it. The OTC stuff does NOTHING for me,

Totally agree on the Bio-oil, those Target bras, and the Old Navy leggings!! I took the Rainbow light also, but they were just too big for me- I ended up gagging on them a bunch! I take one now called Real Food Organics I think- it's three pills but they are much more manageable for me to swallow and they don't make me nauseous either.

I could not get enough of sourdough bread. I ate a ton of grilled cheeses- mozzarella, tomato and olive tapenade on sourdough. I could go for one right now, as a matter of fact... mmmmmm haha!

Congratulations on baby number two. :) Can't wait to find out what you're having!

  26. When I was pregnant, I used bio oil and about three other creams, I only gained 17 pounds and am very healthy, and I still got tons of stretchmarks. I love bio-oil and still use it everyday, but nothing prevents stretchmarks, if you're genetically predisposed. Just want to keep others from beating themselves up and thinking it's their fault!! Because I would read lots of pregnancy blogs, and the girls would say: "I used this cream and got no stretchmarks", and I felt like a big loser!!!
