July Sprinkles Bring August Babies...

This past Saturday my dear friend Veronica hosted a "baby sprinkle" for Charlie and me, which is just like a baby shower, but smaller; a sprinkle rather than a full on rain shower. hah. I loved the idea because I really believe every baby should be celebrated, but I did feel tacky having a second shower for the same sex, like I did with Henry. This was a nice way to get my closest friends and family together, and even though I wasn't expecting any gifts at all, they all brought something small for the little guy. So sweet. We did brunch- Veronica's mother-in-law and my friend Marilyn made the most delicious frittatas, and Veronica also served fruit salad, donuts from our beloved local donut shop, and a green salad with chocolate olive oil dressing. So good. And as a really wonderful surprise, Veronica ordered a triple-layer cake from my favorite baker, and then handed out bags of saltwater taffy for favors. I'm telling you, she needs to go into party-planning- it's a talent! I'm so grateful to have such a kind, generous friend like her and Saturday was such a testament to what a great friend she is. My sister also helped to plan it, and I'm so thankful for her sweet heart.

The brunch was at 11am, so we all got to spend a few hours talking and just being together. After the week I had it was pretty amazing to look around and feel so loved, and be surrounded by so many friends. It was a good reminder that even when things might not be so great, life goes on, and that there's always something good right around the corner. In my case, I have a sweet boy by the name of Charlie waiting for me. I was too busy spending time with everyone to take too many photos, but here are a few to check out. Happy sprinkle, little guy!

  4. You know, it does feel greedy when a person keeps having baby shower after baby shower for all of their little ones. A sprinkle though? Well, that just has to be the most darling idea ever. What a wonderful way to gather and truly celebrate the new, little life that'll be joining this world. Sounds like you had a blast!

  5. Great photos! I love the idea of a little sprinkle too :) I remember before my bridal shower I was more than a little anxious about so much attention being directed towards me, but it was such a fun moment and is now such a fond memory to have so much love and support from my ladybabes! Looks like you have some very thoughtful ladies who surround you as well!

    1. Yes! I totally felt the same way. I really don't like opening presents in front of people, I don't know why it's such a source of anxiety for me! haha. But I'm so glad they threw me one, it was so much fun. Thank you for commenting. :)

  10. Hello! What a cute idea! I agree that every baby should be celebrated, I wish I had seen this before my friend had her second boy. But I will definitely be documenting the idea for any future little ones!
Your blog is amazing. I recently found it through another blog I follow and imagine my surprise when I realized I kind of knew you. Well, I actually know your sister. We played soccer together in high school for a couple of years. Funny how people are all connected. So neat! I love reading your posts and am inspired to better my very new blog! You are such a beautiful person. Good luck in the last few weeks of your pregnancy! Can't wait to read more!

  12. Oh this is too cute, I love the idea of a baby sprinkle! I didn't realize there was something about not celebrating again if it's the same sex (maybe I'm reading wrong) but the party looks darling, I love the cake :)

    1. I think some people have a baby shower for every baby (and I will happily go to anyone's second, third, seventh!) but for me I felt like I didn't need much, and maybe it was a little overboard? But that's just me! :)

We don't really do babyshowers (or even sprinkles) over here, it seems like such a sweet tradition though.

While you're not having the big shower that came with the first baby you're still celebrating the arrival of your next child (which should always be celebrated).

  28. I do agree that showers should generally be reserved for first babies, but I absolutely love the idea of a sprinkle for other babies! All babies should be celebrated with a little get together and it was so sweet of your friends to bring him little gifts. :)

  32. My sister threw my a sprinkle for Archie and it was Seinfeld themed. Everyone brought food from the show (black and white cookies, muffin tops, pretzels etc.) and she got a banner that said, "You've got to see the baby!" The fact that the theme was so irreverent made me feel better about having a party for a second baby :)

I don't mind at all if people choose to have a second, third, whatever shower. I love the chance it gives me to get together with friends and family!

    1. SEINFELD THEMED? Why and how are we not best friends?! I love that. And I agree, I will happily go to anyone's TENTH baby shower. I just love to celebrate. :D

  34. I'm so glad that you have such sweet folks in your life to throw you a sprinkle to celebrate both you and Charlie. I felt so weird with people throwing me a sprinkle for Sadie, but one friend got real with me about how they all very much wanted to celebrate us both and I had to get over whatever weird issues I was putting on the sprinkle. And I had fun! I'm glad you didn't even go there with feeling weird, because there is no reason.

Your friend who threw the party always seems to have such elegant taste and great attention to detail--she should totally be a party planner!
