Summer to Fall

Autumn in this town is something special. But I think there's also something to be said about these few weeks of transition- where the air is just starting to feel crisp, leaves are turning orange here and there, and you can just kind of feel fall approaching. The other night we headed downtown to take a walk- we wore short sleeves and had bare legs, and as the sun started to set we realized that these nights wearing summer clothing are probably numbered.

When I was a teacher I remember how quickly fall arrived. I'm sure it has something to do with going back to school in late July that made summer seem like it was gone in the blink of an eye, but I felt like before I had even gotten to use my bathing suit, autumn was here. Now summer feels a little bit longer, which I appreciate, but I also love this upcoming season more than anything. Those first bits of colored leaves and scarves and all the delicious seasonal produce gets me so happy that fall is (almost) here!

Where do you live? Does it feel like fall in your town yet? Just this week I started to notice the leaves turning so I'd say it's well on its way here!

  1. Lovely pics of you and your family :)
I absolutely love fall! I'm an October baby so I think that has something to do with it. I LOVE summer but for some reason when Fall approaches, I'm at my best self. I find all this inspiration and motivation to just be better in general: cook delicious meals, work on my health & fitness, write & take pictures which are two things I love so much.. Fall is my favorite season, for sure. I'm from Northwestern Ontario though and it appears that Calgary got snow a few days ago so I'm really scared that the scary white stuff is coming for us next.. now THAT I'm not ready for.

  2. Lovely pics.
We are the the other way around.
It is the beginning of Spring here in Invercargill, New Zealand. Today for the first day I walked my youngest to school with no jacket. The windows and doors are being left open, kids are playing outside til later. All the yummy salad ingredients are coming in season and our meals are changing. LOVE spring.

    2. I'm in Auckland and have been loving the warmer temperatures. Being able to dry my washing on the clothesline, the verdant new leaves unfurling. Love Spring and summer.

  3. Living in California, our Summer will still be around for awhile. I know we are expected to be close to 100 degrees this weekend. I love Autumn and anticipate it's arrival (mid-October) it will be here one way or another. Great photos and your tattoos are totally rad.......refreshing to see a fellow blogger exposing their ink!! xoxo ~Ashley

  4. I'm in Aussie so it's also starting to get warmer here, cool crisp mornings and warm afternoon sun is my favourite. Hunting out the t shirts and finally packing away the beanies and gloves!

  5. I love, love, love fall, but we just don't get it here. I lived on Vancouver Island for a bit and it was amazing to actually have a fall that lingered for a bit. It's really just that crispness to the air where you still have the ability to dress like it's summer but toss on a jacket (y'know?) and enjoy being outside. Now, sadly I'm from Calgary and as Jessica mentioned above, we got hit by a pretty brutal snowstorm this week (Oh, Canada). Calgary's weather is pretty temperamental and in typical fashion it's supposed to be warm again, so maybe we WILL get fall. One can only hope!

Lovely photos. I'm really digging the lighter hair. Still comes as a shock! Henry is so BIG now!

  6. I live in Caracas, Venezuela; so we only have 2 seasons: dry and wet. I'm forever jealous of people living with seasons, because although I know that summer heat is awful, shovelling snow is a pain in the bum and spring allergies are annoying, there is something so special about seeing change every few months and start anew. Caracas is a little bit cooler than other parts of the country, but I still can wear shorts on January. It's both a curse and a blessing.

Autumn has always been my favourite season, maybe because my birthday is in September, I dunno, there is something special about the colours and the crisp feeling (we get a tiny little bit of that here), but I just love it. Plus, Halloween is almost here and Christmas is around the corner! Huzzah!!

  7. Such a sweet time. I just took a mental vacation to where you are--I do miss fall so much living here in Hawaii. It's the only time I get "homesick" for the mainland. (I grew up near Seattle.) I try to make a trip every fall that I can to get my little fix. :) Meanwhile I burn pumpkin scented candles and bake fall goodies. haha, Much aloha to you!
