Going Natural in Olive's Nursery (Plus a Giveaway!)

There is such an over abundance of decisions to make when having a baby. So much gear, so many items to pore over, maybe even obsess over if you're like me...and it can be overwhelming. There are some big things though, where the decision can be made pretty simple, and for us, it's picking a natural mattress. When Henry was a baby "natural" mattresses were very expensive, and we did the best we could and got something that worked for us at the time. Now though there are some amazing options out there that are very affordable, and give parents the peace of mind to know their baby is sleeping sounding on something healthy. When you think about, babies spend SO much time on their crib mattress, so even a splurge in this area for something really safe is alright by me.

Brentwood Home is a new-to-me brand that I'm really excited about. When I discovered their line of baby and kid products I knew immediately this was a company I wanted to work with on this blog, not only to use their items in our own home, but to make sure that parents and caregivers who read this blog are in the know too- they're that great! They have a wide variety of baby, toddler and kiddo items, but the thing that first caught my eye were their crib mattresses.

Brentwood Home has varying price points of $159-$349 for their crib mattresses, and each one is free of chemicals- they are the most natural mattress you will find anywhere. Their waterproof surface is completely PVC-Free, they use a special fire barrier protectant of hydrated silica- the same compounds as the gemstone opal, and the mattresses meet and exceed federal flammability and CPSC standards. They're also completely free of lead and phthalates. Plus as a bonus, they're made in the USA (right in Los Angeles, California!). Having one of these mattresses in Olive's crib just makes me feel good, and it's one of those important items I'm happy to have spent some time researching. Plus it will grow with her- their crib mattresses are two stage mattresses, meaning they are double sided, with the "firm" side being for infants, and the other side for the next stage into toddlerhood. We got the Wildfern, whose handcrafted cover is made with a waterproof top panel which makes cleaning easy (important!). The firm side has a 3” organic coconut-husk layer for infants to provide support, while the soft side has 1” organic latex layer for toddlers to add pressure relief.

And another thing I love, Brentwood Home also makes a changing pad. The pad is a simple and functional addition to Olive's room that is completely nontoxic and free of phthalates and heavy metals. It comes with an organic cover that can be used, or switched out for something else. After using a couple different changing pads with the boys, this is by far the best quality and size.

And good news...today Brentwood Home is offering a giveaway for Sometimes Sweet readers. Enter via the widget below- a winner will be chosen Tuesday, March 14 and announced via this post, so check back. Good luck!

  2. Isn't it so wonderful that by the 3rd you can narrow it down to what matters? I remember with my first I thought I needed all the things and wish I would've put more into a baby carrier and organic mattress. Olive's nursery is beautiful. Congratulations mama- she'll be here soon ❤️
